by cw1220 Oct 22, '08Hello. So I am graduating May 2009 with a BSN, and I am moving directly to Lexington. I hope to work at UK's hospital. I worked at a teaching hospital this past summer and loved it.
My question is, how hard is it to get a job at UK's hospital? Is it harder since it's a magnet program?
Thanks!

- Oct 24, '08 by NurseCardIt may depend on what specialty you wish to go into, but overall I don't believe it's terribly hard to get a job there. Seems like they usually have plenty of openings. I would go ahead and contact them now and let them know you are interested.
- Oct 25, '08 by KentuckyRN2BeI would start by talking to the Nurse Recruitment office at UK. The manager there is Shayne Stratton and she is very knowledgeable and good to work with. You can go to this site to get her contact information. I am an adult student in the BSN program at UK and we have talked with her several times.

Hope this helps,

good luck to you and welcome...waving from the Ft. Knox area :-) - Nov 7, '08 by KentuckyRN2BeZoobyli,
I thought you got a job in Louisville? I'm sorry to hear you are still looking! That just seems crazy with the need for nurses. I hope you get to come to UK in the spring. Did you talk to the nurse recruiter at UK or just go through HR? I didn't know about her until after we started classes this fall.
Sarah - Nov 8, '08 by WildcatFanRNQuote from KentuckyRN2BeI'll call her on Monday. The last time I applied though I didn't get very far with the Nurse Recruiters. I don't know if it was because I was an RNA or what.Zoobyli,

Sarah - Nov 8, '08 by KentuckyRN2BeI didn't see this before I answered the other post. It might be worth telling her that you have been accepted to nursing school at UK and this is how you will be able to go. I don't know - anything is worth a try LOL And I think you having your LPN would help too.
Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help!WildcatFanRN likes this. - Nov 8, '08 by WildcatFanRNQuote from KentuckyRN2BeIt also don't hurt that I've passed boards and have my active license nowI didn't see this before I answered the other post.
