Bellarmine Accelerated Nursing Program May 2014

U.S.A. Kentucky

Hey all. I was recently accepted into Bellarmine's accelerated bsn program for the May 2013 cohort. I deferred my admissions until May 2014 due to I still have final exams past the start date and do not have a CNA certification.

However, I'm starting this to meet people who will be starting in May 2014 as well and to those who have gone through the program with any advice.

I'll be starting a Facebook group called "Bellarmine Accelerated BSN 2014"

Hello! :) I'll be applying to Bellarmine's Accel BSN for March 2014 probably next week (have to order my transcripts and finish the application). I have a B.S. in Biology, as well as ~800 hours of patient care experience, but I'd still need to do a CNA class and one more pre-requisite class.

Hi all,

I am currently in the 1 year accel program at Bellarmine and am finishing up the first session this week. The program thus far is tough but doable. We had three competencies (bloodborne pathogens, math, and medical terminology) the first week of classes and were given the material about a month in advance to study. I highly recommend starting the studying process for these early! Some of my classmates in other sections waited until the last minute and did not take these seriously. They are no longer in the program as you must get an 80% or higher on each in order to continue in the program. If you do not get an 80% the first time, you may retest, but on the second try you must achieve a 90%. If you do not receive a 90 or better you can finally retest a third time but you must achieve a 100%. If by the third try you do not receive a perfect score you must withdraw from the class. We started out with 120 (the biggest class ever) and are now down to about 110 I think. Several students have chosen to drop down to the two year program and work at a slower pace. As a procrastinator myself, I can say that this program is a procrastinator's dream, because you have to be on top of things at all times if you want to succeed! If anyone has other questions about the program, feel free to email me at [email protected]

alyss2212, thanks for the advice! :) How do you like the program so far? I saw on one of the FAQs on the program's website a suggested list of books to review before starting the program. If you reviewed those books, did they go over any of the information on the competencies?

I would definitely buy the Second Edition of the Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens book by the National Safety Council. ISBN # 978-0-07-338288-3. That will tell you everything you need to know to pass that competency. I would also buy Calculate With Confidence by Gary Morris 5th edition and look over the basic conversions in Chapter 8. That will help you pass the math competency. I'm not good at math and I have to say math was the easiest, with medical terminology being the hardest for me personally. The medical terminology sheets will probably be given to you at your orientation a month in advance on a USB drive. At least that's how it was for our class. If you're worried about the medical terminology, there's always Mosby's Medical Terminology flash cards on Amazon!

About how long does it take to hear back from Bellarmine after you submit your completed NursingCAS application?

In case anyone else is lurking, I was told admission decisions would be mailed out in early to mid October if you've recently applied. :)

Hi, I am just finishing up the accelerated program at Bellarmine and have several books and other things you may want for the program. If you or anyone you know is in need of supplies, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks :)

bridanette (or anyone else who has attended Bellarmine) I know its been a while since you posted here but I am wondering what you thought of Bellarmine, the quality of the education, difficulty of the program, how were the clinicals, professors, program organization… etc. Thanks… I will email you at the email you provided also. :)

See my post from the Bellarmine 2015 search.
