CNE's In Person

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking to help a loved one.

She needs to find a cne offering on "physical assessment" that provides 6 or more contact hours In Person (i.e., instructor/classroom, Not online/homestudy) by 03/30/2008. (It's an unusual circumstance and while Kansas doesn't typically require in person cne's, in this case, it needs to be so.)

I've come here in the great hope that someone may know of an offering or an instructor that may be able and willing to provide it.

On their behalf I have spent countless hours perusing the state's cne offerings. While I managed to find a couple of in person offerings they were unfortunately cancelled. I've tried or emailed several colleges, ahec's etc.

I've even resorted to looking into offerings in Kansas border states (yes, she's willing to drive) to little avail thus far.

If anyone knows of an offering that meets the criteria, even in a bordering state, or knows an instructor that can provide it, I beg you, please help.

Well, several community colleges offer a "RN update" course. It's mainly for RNs who haven't worked for a while who want to get back into bedside nursing.

Since it is a college course, it would of course fulfill the CEU requirements. Check with community colleges and universities that have nursing programs. I know Johnson County Community College offers it.

Oh, I just saw that she needs it by 3/20/08. I doubt the classes I am referring to would meet that criteria, as they are usually offered on a semester basis. I've never taken one, though, so if I were you I'd still try to find one.

Also, the Kansas City Nursing News always has CEUs in the back, and sometimes someone offers one on physical assessment. I'd check with them.

Thank you so much for responding. That's one of several issues with the "deadline". I don't know of any of them that I looked at that can offer it and it be completed before then. A few were "short", perhaps only 3 or 4 classes but they extend past the time. The only ones I found that were one day offerings (which admittedly was mostly what I searched for, as that's all she needed) were cancelled.

Apparently the state has a fair shortage of instructors or at least instructors with time from their mainstay positions to instruct. The whole thing has been an eye opening experience. JCCC and KCKCC were two that had offerings but for various reasons had to cancel them. I've tried the Nursing News you mentioned which is how I found one offering only to find it cancelled. Ironically that offering couldn't be found at the institutions main site (be it that it had been cancelled or not I don't know) but I used the online Nursing News and manually "punched" each day through Feb and March to find the one I did. Couldn't seem to find a way to make it show offerings for more than one day at a time. I thought it was going to be her saving grace until they were contacted.

The ones where I looked at the actual college courses were as you stated. There were offerings but over an extended instructional period. It isn't a case of her procrastinating really either. I've looked at no less than 40 sites in state having contacted many of them, not counting the ones very local. I can't begin to count the number of out of state searches I've done.

I think I've found one out of state but it is absurdedly expensive. Absurd or not it looks like she's going to go to it. It's coming up soon and she'll have peace of mind that it's done even though she can't really afford it she probably can't not afford it and come to the deadline empty handed.

Honestly at this point, in most ways, I feel I failed her. Coming and posting here was a grasping at straws wherein I hoped maybe I had missed an offering or someone knew of an offering that perhaps hadn't seen much "advertisement" or possibly knew an instructor that could empathize.

In any event I am very grateful and sincere in my thanks to you for having posted. To all the nurses and medical professionals, I salute you. Yours is often not an easy road.

Just a hot tip--> in the back of the KBON newsletter/paper they send out, there are always local area ceus that may be close to u, and provide the content. Check it out next time
