Working Internationally (Saudi Arabia)?

I have so many questions regarding working Internationally country that I don't know where to begin.

Has anyone personally worked in Saudi Arabia?

What were the pros and cons?

ANY info would be great!

My sister in law did for two years.

Very different lifestyle. Alcohol is banned but a blind eye is turned to foreign workers compounds. So you have to very, very careful.

She travelled a lot, diving in the Red Sea. Shopped a lot.

Said she was glad she did it, but once was enough.

Have other friends who have been working in the middle east for over 15 years now and they love it.

Just research everything very carefully.

I have know it was a great money maker years ago. But in today I wouldn't do it for a million bucks.

Is there any particular website that would provide more information?

What about other international nursing jobs? Could anyone recommend other countries? Salary is my main reason for international inquiry. That is why I assumed Saudi Arabia would be rather 'different'.

I am Canadian, currently working in US. I worked in Riyad for one year in 2000/2001. I was really glad i had the experience. I worked at the King Faisal hospital. The shopping was good, the 50 paid holidays was good, nice sign on bonus. I really enjoyed working with nurses from the international community. As for take home pay - i take home more in the US, even after tax. In Saudi i didn't have to pay for an apartment/electricity/water. You still have to pay for internet/cellphone and i couldn't drive as i am female so i had to pay for a driver to take me everywhere. I spent lots of money on Vacations to UAE, South Africa, Jordan, England, Germany, France etc. Now i live in US, i don't spend the money on the big trips. I found most of the arab people to be likeable - your basic sick people are not the fanatics you read about in the paper. It was an experience i will always be grateful i was able to have.
