Not sure if any of you have been following this story but the 4 trapped miners in South Wales have been found dead

I'm from a small mining community not far from the area so am very saddened by this news

I think what made it worse was that everyone seemed to be talking about that fantastic rescue last year, all those dozens of miners trapped in Chile. Somewhere along the line people began thinking that if they can do it in Chile, we can do it here. So the deaths were a real shock, nobody really expected that outcome.

I have family in that area too, but not connected to the mining industry.

The whole area is in shock, and perhaps the one positive outcome is that they have drawn together.

As so often happens in these situations, there is talk of illegal practice at the mine, unsafe conditions, and errors. If that is true, it is so sad that the decisions of those in charge costs the miners their lives.

I'd not heard that about the mine, I thought it had an excellent safety reputation. I hope its not true
