Hi, I am in need of advice please,

Working my way through eoi form with immigration, have already been registered with the nursing council of new zealand BUT can any one tell me what level of qualification is equivalent to a 3 year new zealand nursing programme. I did the hospital based certificate in uk and am NZ registered as a General Nurse. I am struggling obtaining points for recognised qualification. Any UK hospital based certificate RGNs out there who can help. ? level diploma or certificate and should i gain points for my qualification ?

Thanks !!

Tracey

Hi Tracey

Came out here 7 months ago, great place !

3 year hospital based training equal to certificate level.

You should have no problem getting 10 points for your qualification.

I am a RMN AND JUST GOT A COPY OF MY TRAINING FROM THE OLD ukcc.

as a nurse you should have no problems gaining the right amount of points,we are so short of nurses over here and Uk nurse training stands us in very good stead.

Good luck

Have you got a job offer yet!

Thanks kelvin.

Did you go through the system before it changed, earlier this year? The points system changed and allocation of points seems to be diploma or higher at 50 points, or acceptable trades 50 points. I would have thought i could still get points with nursing being on the POL.

In the process of hopefully getting a job offer - fingers crossed !

Thanks for your reply

Hope this might be of help to you www.nursingcouncil.org.nz

I live in Auckland NZ, thought these couple of sites might be of interest to you as well. www.sahco.nz/Counties/ then click on working in NZ, www.adhb.govt.nz this hospital is very near the centre of the city.

The ADHB is going to be at Opportunities NZ Expo 16/17 Oct 2004 been held at Earls Court, Ibis Hotel.

If you want to ask any other questions,I'd be happy to try and answer them for you.

Good luck Christine:balloons:

Cheers for the info Keetahe, i attended expo and found it very useful. It pretty much answered all my questions bar a couple.

How much do you kiwis clear after taxes. I know the cost of living is cheap and the houses are lovely for minimal monies, but how much is in your pocket once the government has taken ther little bit? :uhoh21:

Tracey, is the problem getting points with immigration? If so, once you have a job offer from a NZ hospital you will recieve extra points for having "needed " qualifications. That is, they try to recruit in their own country first, if not enough nurses, they are allowed to recruit from overseas.

A word to the wise anyone coming to NZ or Australia to nurse, obtain a statement of how many hours you have worked at whatever grade, this affects pay scale.

More so here in Oz, New Zealand, when I worked there (Green Lane) 5 years ago, was far more progressive and helpful career wise than here in Australia - I should add, Queensland, as I don't know about other states. NZ really respects knowledge giving you the oppo to work up the grades,

good luck

Hi Tracy

I came over to New Zealand Two years ago and have hospital based training, I think this is accepted the same as degree or diploma. Another way to get help if you are defininetly coming is to get in touch with a nurse agency to get you a job, they will be up to date as to what qualifications are accepted and will also get you a job at the same time so that will get you the extra points to put on your application. That is what I did and here I am in sunny Whangarei

Specializes in Mental Health, Orthopaedics, MedSurg.

I agree, get in touch with a nursing agency and they can usually help advise and/or direct you to the proper channels to obtain registration etc and jobs as well.
