UK to Australia or New Zealand?

Hi All,
I am a newbie to the site having only registered a couple of days ago. I'm really impressed with the site and need some help gathering information.
I am hoping to start my Nursing Diploma next September here in the UK. I am taking the Adult Nursing course and at the end of it I want to emigrate my family to either Australia or New Zealand.
I just want to get a feel for where would make the most sense to move to.
I keep reading horror stories about the New Zealand economy and introverted communities. This is a worry as I live in a country where the economy is already shaky so I don't want to jump out of the proverbial frying pan and into the fire.
A lot of Nurses in NZ seem to think that Australia is the best place to go and a lot of them seem to migrate that way.
Any help would be appreciated as this is a pretty major decision.
One more question: Do I need a degree or will my diploma suffice? If not what kind of assimilation training will I need and how much does it cost?

Hi Brit and welcome

I have just got back from working 18 months in Australia. It was my second stint of work there. I loved it, great people, great weather and the job is pretty much like here in the UK. Your UK diploma in nursing will be sufficient for registration in Oz, but the one thing I will say is that it might prove difficult getting a job there without experience. I would suggest getting at least 6 months experience here in the UK before looking into making the move.
In terms of the actual process of getting there, it is not too difficult or too long winded. I have made other posts on here about how to go about it, so just look back at my previous posts and check it out.

I'm informed that I can apply for registration/immigration within 12 months of graduation. So I reckon on working at my local hospital, which happens to be the University Hospital that I would have been studying at, for at least six months whilst I am waiting to move to either Oz or NZ.
I love the idea of NZ and have to admit that I was reading a lot of negative posts about moving their.
In the same forums there were Nurses really standing up for NZ and saying that UK nurses do very well over there.
I am not money mad, I just want my kids to grow up and settle somewhere peaceful.
My wife will transfer as a Police officer and at least one child will be at high school with the other starting the following year.
In short we fell in love with NZ and didn't like to hear that people thought it wasn't a great place to move to.

Can I ask, have you ever actually been to Oz or NZ? If not I would certainly suggest a visit before making the permanent move. I can't comment on NZ because I have never been there. We were in Sydney both times, which is one of the more expensive places to live in Oz, the money is not that great, but the quality of life more than makes up for that. They didnt seem to be feeling the pinch as much as I have noticed since I got back to the UK. No signs of Australia entering a recession when we left in July, in fact they were predicting a 2.2% growth in the economy in 2009, but then again no country is immune, purely because of the global nature of the thing.
Property is expensive especially in the cities and are you aware that you have to pay for your kids education too?

hi all i have just joined all nurses, I am to looking to take my career( when i qualify) and move to NZ, i haven't really looked into it to much let, so any info would be great.
i do know some people who moved to NZ and no complaints apart missing family and friends.
