Australia is almost as large as the contiguous US, so accommodation prices vary hugely. Much of the country is scarcely populated; the capital cities (except for the NT) are on the coast and cluster along the east.

Every state has a different salary system, so nurses with the same level of experience earn different amounts depending on where they work. In addition allowances are paid for relevant post-graduate qualifications, and for PM, ND and weekend work.

To get an idea about base rate and penalties in each state check the ANF paycheck site.

For information about the pros and cons of various Australian states search through the Australian/New Zealand section - there are a number of threads about Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, with a few mentions of Tasmania and the NT.

Be advised that the government are about to reduce the number of skilled migrant places available - it's not yet known if this will affect nursing positions.

Good luck :)

thanks for the reply it was really helpful.

im so nervous about moving my little ones away from their family but i know in the long run will be best for them.
