Just keep applying everywhere. Check out the Region's site in your area (i.e. York Region, Durham Region, etc) and see what LTC jobs are listed. Try Revera's website (they have a lot of LTCs), and check the career page of the hospitals near you (or that you would be willing to commute to). Just apply to anything and everything you think you could do. Even if a job says you need experience, or this or that, apply if you are interested (and its an RPN job, lol). Sometimes the things they say they want are negotiable.

    Good luck!

Hospitals are not hiring external applicants right now, it is the fiscal year end, and hospital and longterm care administrators are expecting a shortfall for upcoming budgets.
Consider taking some extra education such as a footcare course to help your resume stand out from other applicants. If you have a vehicle and have additional qualifications you might find work in homecare.

Some hospitals are still hiring. I'm not sure of the ones in Toronto itself, but in Mississauga, Brampton and the Halton area, there are quite a few RPN positions posted, on a variety of floors.

I agree on the extra education courses though - those NEVER hurt to have!

What part of the GTA are you looking at? Durham or Mississauga or somewhere else?

Thanks for the reply Nessa. I'm looking in the Durham region as I live in Ajax. But
I'm flexible to work in central Toronto, Markham or Richmond Hill area as well

I know the Scarborough Hospital is looking for RPN's, part time I believe. Rivera INC is looking for RPN's. Rouge Valley, Toronto East General Hospital, and some of the home healthcare agencies are looking for RPN's as well. That's all that I can think of for right now. Hope this helps.

This has been helpful. I have applied at the places you have mentioned. I'm just wondering if appliying via email is just not working in my favour (almost all of the job require resumes to be emailed).

    Thanks again.

If you are worried about your resume, there are companies out their that will work with you to make your resume the best it possibly can be. I would also email it more than just the one time. Dont go overboard, and perhaps give their HR a call and say you are interested in their company and what can you do to apply there? I always fax my resumes but that is just me.

The agencies are probably just offering on call because the "new year" for the access centres just started (april) so they have their new budgets and give out more contracts after then.

I believe my resume and cover letter is okay
but it's just that most places want you to
email your resume. I have also preferred fax but only
a few provides a fax number.
I'm waiting patiently for a nursing job but at the
same time I don't want to getting a job a year after
graduation (graduated in Oct 2010). I hope the job come soon

Hey! i'm in Oshawa, when I graduated, I looked in the yellow pages and foudn every nursing home listed and brought in a resume personally to the Director of Care. A lot of people say it's hard to get into a hospital as a new grad (around here anyway, not sure about TO). Try that.. and keep an eye out in the paper, sometimes there are ads for clinics and stuff like that!
