Ready to take NCLEX..but?

Hello, Ive completed a 2 year course for LPN here in the Philippines and now Im ready for the NCLEX exam, however...im reading a lot of things about the LPN courses in the Philippines that they are not recoginized in the US? iIs that correct? Can anybody clear this up? I have an american finance and will be moving there next year...so obtaining a work visa etc is not an issue for me. But did I just waste 2 years of my life in a worthless class? God I hope not, please advise me.

Questions

1. Should I take the NCLEX here in the Philippines or in Virginia where I willl live with him or does it make any differance? Hes willing to pay the extra fee for international exams, but will I need to take it again in Virginia?

If that works out then...

2. I really want to advance to RN, Ive seen LPN to RN Bridge programs I can complete in 1 year online while working hopefully. Does this sound possible?

3. If that sounds do-able does anybody have recommendations for a good online school to attend and what is the estimated cost?

Any other facts, advice related to my topic is greatly appreciated, thank you so much

1. It wouldn't make a difference where you take the NCLEX-PN, it's the same exam whether you take it in the Philippines or in Virginia. The bigger question is are you eligible to apply for LPN licensure in Virginia? Look at the Virginia BON website because it states:

"If one or more apply to you, please contact the Board at (804) 367-4555 for further assistance:

  • You are not a recent graduate from a PN state approved nursing education program; or
  • If you attended an education program outside of Virginia that did not provide a minimum of 400 hours of direct client care supervised by qualified faculty. [18VAC90-20-120.E.]
  • If you are a LPN educated in a foreign country."

The part where it says "LPN educated in a foreign country" needs some clarification. Does it mean you have to be licensed as a practical nurse in the foreign country first? If that's the case, then you're out of luck because there is no licensure exam for LPN's in the Philippines. Let's hope that's not the case so you really need to call Virginia BON to clear this up.

2. LPN-RN bridge programs are rarely if ever offered online. Excelsior College (www.excelsior.edu) does have online LPN-RN bridge but Virginia is one of the states where Excelsior grads are not eligible for RN licensure (http://www.excelsior.edu/state-board-requirements). Some campus-based LPN-ADN programs are indeed one year in length. In most cases, the 1-year LPN-ADN bridge programs apply if you graduated from the same LPN program where you will be completing the ADN part of the bridge. Otherwise, there are programs that can take longer than 1 year.

Thanks so much! That was a great reply, Im am going to do my research with the VA board of nursing to see what im able to do, then consider my future routes...hope you wouldnt mind following up in the near future if I had another question to post...thanks again I really appreciate it
