    Dear Prathima,

The blog administrators do not permit to give personal information. I am still in Muscat, working in the second largest hospital (Khoula Hospital). It is under the Ministry of Health. I work in OR (Ortho). Anyway, I will try to give you some more information in some other way.

    Regards,

    Alina Mathew

hi alina. i am a filipina nurse. i want to thank you for the information. actually i am waiting for my work visa to oman royal hospital. i submitted all the requirements for visa processing in an agency here in philippines, they told me i will just wait for two months. that was last february meaning i've been waiting for five months and until now there's no visa. i keep on asking the agency regarding this but they also keep on telling me that there is no advise yet from the said hospital. anybody can help me please. possible ideas why such thing happened? i mean does the work visa really take time in processing? please help me. better if we can chat, i still have many questions to ask. thank you very much especially to those who will give me answers.

    hi, my name is Ian,

I am from Philippines, with 4 years experience (3years as nursing aide and 1 year as company nurse). i graduated last march of 2008 and have already passed the national board examination in our country so I am a Registered Nurse in our country.

What possible hospital I am qualified preferably here in muscat because we live here near in ruwi.

Is it true that there are many discrimination when it comes to expatriate nurse like me? what are the salary range on government hospital or private hospitals?

    thanks.

What Alina Mathew said is so True:
    "Workplace Descrimination:
Nationalisation drive (known as omanisation) of all nursing jobs are currently underway. To attract more nationals to the nursing and other paramedical professions, government is giving more pay and perks to its nationals. You can see that national RN's with no experience and less qualifications are drawing double the amount as salary. They may get flexible duty schedules while you will be paid no overtime and may require to work throughout the weekends, night shifts etc. Here we call it as 'you do the work and they draw the money'. Moreover, they will become your supervisors within a year or two while you will remain as 'staff nurses' without any pay increase or promotions."

My wife has been working in a hospital (i will not disclose the name of the gov't.hosp.) she had her vacation after six months working there, then when she came back to Oman we joined her. It's a nice place to live, but not healthy for children because they can't play outside when it is morning because of the temperature so our two kids (5y.o.& 3y.o girls) they just stay inside, they can go out about 6PM when it is not that hot outside,
If you don't have your own car, it's hard to go from one place to another because the only transportation is the Taxi which you will share it with other travelers. Unlike in the Philippines (were we came from) we have different types of transportation.
What I really hated is the locals get flexible duty schedules, i'll give an example: most of the times when my wife is Off duty they would call her and ask her to go on duty because one of the lazy national staff nurse did not come for duty, and that's not paid it should be overtime or double pay. And there excuse? is they have headache and some minor thingy.
Some of the national nurses have two years diploma in nursing while expat nurses are BSN. And the national nurses recieve double the salary of an expat nurse. Well we have to accept the fact that we are in their country, but sometimes I tell my wife to say no when she is being ask to go on duty on her rest day.
I'm just wondering how the Omani government could omanized their own country.
