Nursing in Michigan

I'm an English nurse currently working in Michigan USA. My hospital is very interested in employing more English nurses and running a course for Orientation.If anyone is interested you could contact me through this message board and I could put you in contact with our Educator. You would need to take the CGFNS exam BUT there are no agencies involved.

Michigan is just over the border from Canada right inbetween the Great Lakes.We have beautiful weather in the summer ( in the high 80's) and deep snow in the winter.

Anyone interested?

i did consider working in US but im paediatric trained RN, not adult. To be honest im not interested in adult nursing. its a shame you cant be considered with only paeds training. i know the exams u take contain adult nursing so i know i would fail.

The examn here isn't hard. I am UK trained 25 years ago. I haven't nursed at all for 20 years. I got hold of practice questions and just practiced and PASSED both CGFNS (the foreign nurse exam) AND Michigan State Board exam. It's not so hard!!! You can take CGFNS in the UK.

Nursing here in Michigan is a great experience. As I said I have not nursed for a lng time but felt accepted and part of the team!!!

Just out of curiousity, where abouts are you in Michigan? I'm an American over here not-so-sunny Surrey, doing my nurses training as a mature student. (yes, I know, odd. but my other half is british and I've lived over here for years)

I'm originally from Chicago, but spent loads of time in Michigan - mainly the UP as a teen ager. One of the most beautiful places... We keep thinking we'll go back once I'm qualified (sept 06). I miss the birch trees and a real autumn and the snow, and think my daughters ought to get to go to a homecoming dance! :chuckle

do they still "say yes! to Michigan"?

I live in Grand Rapids Michigan. Definately your daughters should attend homecoming. Education here as you must know is EXCELLENT. Leaves are turning here and it is all looking beautiful. RNs are a valuable resource here.

Not sure about the "say yes to Michigan?" I've only lived here for 5 years

Grand Rapids always struck me as one of those wonderful "not too big/not too small" kind of places.

"say YES to mIchigan was a big tourist headline in the late 1980s. (ooo dating myself!) -- bumper stickers, billboards and tv ads. The Upper Penninsula where we were had another bumper sticker that said "say Yah to da U.P. eh?" -- Don't know whether you've lived there long enough to understand that?

all those scandinavian settlers and a comedy skit called great White North?

anyway. I get really homesick for the midwest when the leaves start to fall and Britain falls apart at the first flake of snow....
