Help With Finding Product

I know this may be a long shot but I thought I'd give it a try..

Does anyone know where I can buy bulk/discounted Ensure supplements in Southern Ontario? My grandmother is palliative, bed-ridden at home with us and she goes through these supplements very quickly. Our local drug stores seem to constantly be sold out where there is a sale, and without a sale they are close to $15 for 6 bottles. I've asked fellow nurses but no one seems to know where to find them besides the drug store.

Any help would be appreciated! thank you.

I'm pretty sure you can get it at Costco. Do you know anyone with a membership who could pick it up for you? It's also sold at Walmart, which might be your cheapest source.

Have you checked to see if it's covered by your provincial health plan? I know that in some cases out here if a Doctor writes an rx for it, it's supplied.

Or you could ask the stores to bulk order it for you.

We've tried that. My grandmother is deemed palliative, bed-ridden at home and has daily wound care, yet unfortunately Ensure cannot be covered and we have to purchase it ourselves. It not a problem, she just goes through a lot so I'm attempting to find a more wallet friendly solution since a case of 6 costs $13.99+tax and she goes through 6 a day.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

I looked when I was at Walmart today and it's $22.79 for a case of 12x235mL cans. 6 cans a day will be giving her 1500 calories a day. Ensure Plus is the same price but has 105 more calories per can. So to get the same caloric intake she could have 4 cans of the Ensure Plus and some plain water for fluid. It's a thought.

Hi Jan,

Sorry I must have not mentioned the type she's on, she's already taking Ensure Plus. Funny you mention Wal-Mart, I just got back from there and bought two of the $22.79 cases!

I'm heading to the states next week so I'll check there, I'm hoping to find a deal and bring back quite a few cases.

Thanks all!

Does she really need all those calories? 6 cans gives her 2130 calories a day. That's quite a lot for someone who isn't likely be all that active. Might she be interested in good old chocolate milk instead of some of that Ensure Plus?

The problem is she has days where she won't take anything in at all, and she'll sleep all day. Her # of bottles taken in vary throughout the week depending on her good/bad days. I jumped the gun saying she takes in 6 a day. That's once a week, if that.

Is there a dietitian you can talk to? I know the one I work with always seems to know where to suggest pts shop. Just a thought....
