Bad Contracts with Bad Agencies

Sorry to have to post something like this, but I have been receiving horror story after horror story the past few weeks, and there is absolutely no reason that you have to put up with any of those lies.

From DHEL28's agency placing 9 people in one apt without heat in NYC in the winter, and only one bathroom, they were told that accommodations were provided. And not even a bed, they had to buy that for themselves. To another agency incorrectly filling out documents so that the nurse got denied, then telling the nurse that the agency was going to pay for an attorney to go to Washington DC to correct things. But one year later they have not been resubmitted with the corrections, and number two, the immigration centers are not in Washington D.C. And this nurse was also told that the agency would know twenty seconds after arriving in the US that he was here. Impossible. And another that had a $25,000 cancellation policy but told that if she tried to leave, it would cost her about $100,000.

If you are having issues with your agency being untruthful and taking advantage of you, please contact the Embassy for your country here in the US, as well as the US Embassy in your home country where you had your interview.

Once you have arrived in the US, you cannot be deported. Do not let an agency threaten you with this. The green card gives you permanent residency.

Funny thing, you are posting about this wonderful agency, yet you are being placed in an LTC with 30 to 60 patients that you are responsible for. And in all of my years as an RN, which ar too many to count, I have never seen an LTC give a three month orientation for an RN. Your agency may tell you that, but I can promise that it will not be paid at an RN salary.

You will be very lucky to get even five days or shifts in during roeitnation, and then you will be working on your own. This is very common in LTC, even for graduates of US schools.

Please really do your homework on this before inviting someone else to join you.

Specializes in Emergency.

I wonder would anyone mind pm-ing me with some agencies recommendations. I wish to work in Boston and my specialty is emergency. I've been looking up some but a bit confused, i'd rather get a contract with a hospital directly but the one's i've ttalked to say that they don't sponsor I140's for green card nurses.

I've applied for my CES and who have recieved all my paper work bar 1. they are waiting to get my college paper work at the moment. Hoping to do as much of it myself if i can to speed things up a bit.

Any advice much appreciated.

have a nice week everyone..:wink2:

There is no list of good agencies or bad agencies. All of you need to do your homework and look real close at any contract that you are given to sign.

If it is not in the contract, it does not exist. And be very leary of contracts that are not concerned with you having the NCLEX completed before you come over to the US. Many agencies will not even start the process with a state untl you are in the country, and that means months of waiting. And unless you are in one of the few states that will pemit an intermim permit, you will be paid at about $7 per hour until you pass the NCLEX and get your license.

You will see agencies all fo the time that tell you just to pass the CGFNS exma, but that does not give you a license in the US. You must take the pass the NCLEX exam. The more reputable facilities in the US will only take a nurse that has passes the nCKEX exam.

I heard about a nurse just last night from the Philippines, that has everythng done including a visa in hand, but her agency now told her to get six months experience; that just means that they do not have placement for her as of yet, and they are in direct violation of US immigration law.

Do not let that happen to you.

You must do your homework, and do not rely on following everything that your best friend or cousin tells you to do. You need to take some responsibility for what you are going to do.
