2nd Entry/Fast-Track RN Program Experience

Hello everyone,

I would like to hear from those people who are currently in a Second Entry/Advanced Standing/Fast Track RN Program or have already graduated from said program. I am in Ontario and I am considering applying for Sept '12 entry, I have an Hons.B.Sc. under my belt.

I know the workload is very condensed, I'd like to know your experience and how manageable the program is/was for you. Any feedback at all would be a great help to me! I am considering the programs offered by Queen's and McMaster, so far.

I'm currently in my second last semester of the NEPS SDEO in sask here. It's currently being re worked but i can say that the instructors enjoy our level of intelligence, maturity and drive. so far its been good and bad, which i'm sure the 4 year program is no different. I have a degree in physiology from 09, and i've found that this program has been challenging, time consuming, frsutrating, rewarding, life changing, and provides ample opportunity to undergo self reflection. Do it..the RN schooling opens untold numbers of doors. It also goes by really quick, and smaller class numbers mans tighter knit groups and increased social support...you need each other, and lemme tell you, we are each others best resource. "it won't be easy, but it will be worth it"

Thank you for your reply! In January I start a 4-yr collab BScN program, but I decided to go ahead and apply to the accelerated Nursing programs with 2012 entry. Nothing to lose!

I just graduated from an accelerated nursing program in Ontario. I also have a BSc degree. I would highly recommend it rather than taking another four years to get your BScN. It is compressed, but you learn what you need to learn. I thought it was great and went by fast! The workload is manageable. There is a shift in the type of work (ex. instead of writing lab reports, you are writing reflective papers) that you may be used to, but you'll get through it. Good luck!
