Indiana State University Online LVN to RN program

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

I wanted some information on this online school. I have been following this place for awhile and wanted to know if anyone is currently attending, has attended, or will be attending this online school. Thank You

i have paid for two of the exams already but didn't receive anything but a go ahead to test with my proctor. i am still studying though for nursing care of adults and child and family.

they should have acknowledge that you are enrolled in the challenge exam and sent you the study guide & objectives. you need to call her.

o by the way...i used to could see my grades before i called to have my admission changed to fall 2012 since i did not complete the challenge exams before the nov 1st deadline and now i can't even see my grade. i am not sure if since i now deffered my admission if i would be able to test. any clue about what i should do here?

no idea. again, that is the nursing dept's area.

o...i am also in california and in the fresno area...do you know anyone also in the program in this area? i am trying to find a partner now especially before the clinical areas

until the class starts and until everyone introduces theirselves on the discussion board (this is an assignment), no one knows who is in the class or where they are from. once the students discuss themselves and say where they are from, you can see if there is anyone from your area.

btw you do not need to take both the transition class with the assessment class. no one told me this. normally, students take one class each semester during the first 2 semesters. i took both at the same time, and the 2nd semester i had no classes to take as all my gen ed classes were complete. my advice is to take the transition class and concentrate only on that one. the next semester take the assessment class. the third semester is mental health. fourth semester is start of the med surg series. somewhere along the line there is the research class and community health. the rest of the semesters are med surg classes and leadership.

It appears to be in the Philippines. On its accreditation page, it has an NLN logo, but it is an affiliate member of the NLN, not accredited by the NLNAC: http://www.kennedyglobal.net/aboutus_accreditation.php. Red flag: not a *.edu website.

This page says they're recognized by the "U.S. Board of Nursing" -- http://kennedyglobaldavao.com/ Hahaha. Which board is that? It appears its students are taking the NCLEX-PN in Texas. Appears to have a Nevada office but is not a licensed program according to the Nevada BON site (or the Texas BON site, for that matter, but Texas doesn't list programs not resident in Texas). I'd be curious to see where these students are taking the NCLEX-RN, as the first site claims they can. Bottom line, though -- not a U.S. school, not regionally or nationally accredited by any U.S. accreditation bodies.

:yeah: Good research, info, and good advice.

thanks ladyinscrubs for all the info...kudos to you.

So I've been on the phone with TCN and recommended courses. There are a few courses they listed that I can take at the community college. Before I can test out on the 4 nursing courses, I would have to test out or take a class for intro to computing...ridiculous if you ask me. In nursing school, we live on the computer. Where would I get a list of objectives that I need to know to prepare to test out for the intro to computer testing.

I've also read that we don't need the materials from TCN for the 4 nursing tests. So anyone who has gone through this, does anyone agree or disagree that those are a waste of money? Keep in mind, I;m a brand new nurse, with very little nursing experience.

thanks,

Wendy

i am in the program (half way through) and have repeatedly posted that you do not need tcn to pass the 4 challenge exams. do a search on my an name for the numerous posts. the prerequisites are required (including intro to computers), and one cannot get around them. you can take them at a local community college, at the college associated with isu (ivy tech), clep exam, or through tcn (which is not accredited but isu accepts their classes).

again, you do not need the tcn study guides to pass the 4 challenge exams at the lpn to bsn isu nursing program. the school will (and if they don't, remind them) will send you a study guide and objectives that should be covered during your studies once you pay for each of the challenge exams. using the isu study guide/objectives you can read the nursing books as well as review the rn nclex book(s). there is no need to buy the tcn study guides for the 4 challenge exams. save your money.

There is a lot of info to weed through...so I appreciate you taking the time to answer me.

Will CLEP provide a study guide or objectives needed to know for the intro to computer. It's ridiculus for me to spend $525 bucks for study materials for computers...I worked in the computer industry and have trained people on how to use the computer.

According to the TCN rep, I have all the pre-reqs and will be able to proceed with ISU but there are a couple of classes I'll need to take or test out of inorder to graduate...including pathophys, tech writing, Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Mgmnt. Does that sound right?

Thanks for your info

Google CLEP, read the information there, and the info about the CLEP classes they provide to challenge those classes. As far as the Computer class...you can complain as much as you wish but if it is a requirement for the bachelor's degree, then you must have the class. Pathophysiology is required and you can take it through Ivy Tech. Tech writing ? are you are discussing statistics. Organ. Behavior & Human Res mgmt does not sound right. Remember, the TCN rep is a sales person not a official counselor with ISU or with the nursing program.

Go to ISU's website for the LPN to BSN website. Look at the requirements to enter the program. See what classes you have taken and what you still need to take. If you are not sure, register at ISU and have your original transcripts sent to ISU so ISU can evaluate your transcripts and give you a definitive answer as to what you need to take to enter the program. You must register because you must have an ISU student ID # to do anything with ISU..

i did some more research. tech writing is required versus advanced comp english. it is a better class for the nursing program. now the organ behavior & human res mgmt...that one i would question. be aware that many of the regular nursing classes have prerequisites. if you have not taken the gen ed prerequisite, you will stop taking nursing classes until you take the class(s). below is info contained in an email sent by the nursing dept.

[color=#365f91]"there appears to be some confusion about when required (nursing) general education courses need to be completed in the program of study.

[color=#365f91][color=#365f91]many students are upset when i advise them they cannot progress to their 400 level nursing requirements, because they have not met one or more of the above requirements.

[color=#365f91]i have also been asked why some students are permitted to take nurs 318 with nurs 226 and others are not. [color=#365f91]if a student has completed a previous associate or bachelor’s degree from another institution—they are allowed to take nurs 318 with nurs 226.[color=#365f91] a certificate from another institution is not the same as a degree. if you have been advised that you may only take nurs 226, it is because you do not have a previous degree from another institution. [color=#365f91]nursing courses have prerequisites of other nursing courses, and that is why they must be taken in a specified order.

[color=#365f91]please remember[color=#365f91]--the lpn-bs program is not an accelerated program. if you just began your program of study this semester, the [color=#365f91]estimated[color=#365f91] time of completion is 2 ½ to 3 years. the time of completion is based upon how many requirements you still need to complete for your program of study. many students do finish their requirements in 2 to 2 ½ years.

[color=#365f91]i hope the above information helps clarify more clearly questions you may have regarding your nursing requirements".

Hi Guys/Ladies!

I am currently contemplating on joining the LVN - RN BSN program as well. But I can not make up mind due to the fact that I am constantly getting mixed reviews about it. I would like to do it ASAP as I am trying to further my career no matter what it takes. Can any one who is currently in the program help me out ? I would like to make my decision about everything soon and I just do not know what to do.
