Single Mom, need more info re RN school

  1. 0
    Hi there!

I'm a recently single mom to 3, ages 8, 3, and 1. I have CCDF for daycare, grants for school, and child support for other expenses. I'm looking for more information on grants to cover more living expenses. We're just barely scraping by.

I am not working. I can't manage the kids, school, and working.

I am wondering, what is the average work load involved in nursing school? How many hours/day or week? Is it possible to do school when my kids are in daycare and NOT do any after they're home for the night? When they're with me, I want to be with them.

I am working on getting my pre-req's. I keep hearing about co-req's but no one has told me what they are. I'm at Ivy Tech.

What grades do I need to maintain to have a shot at being accepted into the nursing school? I usually get mid 90s. I have my CNA license and am planning to get my RN.

Any other advice you have for me would be much appreciated.

The workload depends on the number of classes you choose to take that semester. If you want to take a full load (15 credits) then it would be 5 days per week/ all day.

Most classes are during the day but some may extend to 4-5pm. If you have clinicals the next day You need to go to the hospital to research the patient that you will have to care for during that clinical. It may be possible to do your homework after they go to bed but it will make for late nights and early classes.
