Question for IL or IN Rns...

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello everyone! I am happy to report that I have received my official ATT letter with test sites and their dates/times. My question is this: Is the Merriville, IN location available for IL-RN candidates? I noticed it was added to my list of available sites based on my zip code entry. Any info would be greatly appreciated, including good directions to the site (coming from 106th and Torrence), INTERNET directions (Mapquest, etc.) are so vague and unrealistic!!! JMHO, of course. I am SOOOOOOOO nervous about this whole process! Take care, bye 4 now....:nurse:

Figured I'd reply since no one else has. I'm originally from NW Indiana so I'm familiar with the area. Don't know exactly where the testing site is in Merillville, but it's a long haul from 106th and Torrance. There must be a closer testing center??

Hey MT,

Thanks for the reply! Yes, there is a closer location (Downtown Chicago on LaSalle), but the soonest date available is November 17th!!!!! I really don't want to wait that long, so the next best bet is Indiana, and then Matteson, but in Matteson, IL all the test START times are 9am--NO WAY!!!! I NEED an afternoon test, my brain doesn't start working well 'til after noon!!! Then there is the farthest, Shaumburg, IL. Way farther than Merriville! Ideally, I would like to to test between the 15 and 20th of Oct. How's Florida? Great, I hope/bet!!!! Take care!

Oops! Just noticed in my original post that I left out the directions to the IN test site--its actually on Broadway, 85th and Broadway to be exact....so sorry!

Chelli73,

Yes, I understand about the morning testing, I'm a night person myself!

Easiest basic directions would be the Skyway to the Indiana Toll Road (I90) to I65 South. Take I65 to the US30 exit in Merrillville. US30 should intersect with Broadway. Probably about a 30 mile trip.

Good luck to you!

You realize if you tested in Indiana you'd have an indiana license (I think) but the thing is it is pretty easy to get to - the Merriville testing center. Thats where I tested in May of 05.

I do not think you will have an Indiana license if you tested in Indiana. It does not matter where you test. What is important is the state you applied for your license. Most of my friends applied for an Illinois license but tested in Indiana or MO and still got their Il license. In fact, you can now test anywhere in U.S.A and still get a license where you applied. About Indiana testing time, some days Indiana testing centers have 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 2:00pm as well. I had my test two weeks ago in Indiana at 1:00pm. And cousin had hers at 11:00 in July. It all depends on what days are open and suitable to you. If not, you can always try other states other than the two. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help! Re JenRN an tinta's replies, that is where I am stuck at! I am hearing different accounts as to whether I will be an IN RN (I do want to get licensed in IN, but ILLINOIS FIRST!) if I take the test in IN. tinta, what you are saying sounds logical. I am just going to have to wait until I get the official reply from Pearson, hopefully they respond by Monday! Their help lines were not working at the time of my last log-in.

Just to clarify, it's not where you test, it's the state Board of Nursing for which you are testing. I tested in WI for my Illinois license and I can tell you that my license is most definitely from IL. When you apply for the NCLEX test w/Pearson, you had to specify which BON you were applying to/testing for.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the info! I will be doing a test drive to Merriville to familiarize myself with that area! Take care all....

That is where I took my NCLEX in late July! I came from northside Chicago, took the 90/94 down.

And yes, I am an IL RN.

Where are you coming from, southside Chicago?

To get to the testing center from the highway is easy.
