IL Board Exam & DUI

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I am new to this forum and I would like to greet you all in here.

I'll be graduating hopefully next year and I have a question about

board exam and DUI case in Illinois. I regret having done so and

have learned the hard way about drinking & driving during a x-mas

party last 2003. :(

After finishing my probation period, I have read the application form for the board exam and under personal history I would need to state this sad case and so I would like to get comments or suggestions from you guys. Does the IL BON permit nurses to take the exam w/ this kind of situation? What would

I expect from IL BON if they would allow me and what are the requirements &

procedures should I be prepared for?

Thanks

We are unable to make any decisions here for the BON, they are the only ones that can make a determinatiion here. They do this on a case by case basis. You have a good chance that you will be able to get your license, but take this as a warning, with another offense, you will have major issues to solve with them.

You still should contact them, we can only tell you what we have heard in the past. Only they can make a final decision for you.

Thanks for the reply Suzanne. Somehow I felt a sense of relief when

you said that they might give me a chance. That DUI arrest made me

realize a bunch of important lessons. Life is precious and I considered

myself lucky coz somebody (me or others) could have been hurt or worse died

because of driving under the influence of alcohol. I love nursing but if this

one mistake will prevent me from becoming a future nurse then I just have to

accept the fact, learn from the mistake and move on.

Thanks
