Does/did anyone go through their nursing program???? If so I was wondering what your NLN score was, how long it took you to complete it and what your schedule looked like while you were there

Hi Samma, there's a few threads up here that talk about NLN scores for harper, if you're interested you can search for them. But since admissions are different starting this last semester scores will be looked at a lot different too so just keep that in mind. It is a 2 year program, and the schedule for nursing alone is a pretty big load so my first advice would be to take as many classes as you can before you get into the program so you can take the nursing courses by themselves. That will help A LOT! Last semester I was at school/clinicals for approx. 18 hours a week just for nursing. That doesn't include any study sessions, homework, or practice labs though. Depending on your schedule you're usually there 4 days/week from 7 or 8 till noon. Second semester your load increases to about 21 hours/week, and second year increases to about 25 hours/week from what I've heard. Keep in mind this doesn't include any other classes you might have to take, any studying/homework (which will easily double your hours), or anything else like a job you'd like to have. It's a huge time commitment and it's an intense program, but it's one of the best in illinois, and definitely one of the best community college programs. If you have any other questions/comments/concerns please feel free to ask or PM me. Good luck!

Just got my letter of acceptance yesterday. My NLN composite was 90 and with the points they add for classes taken, I am at a 99%.
Now they may want you to be a CNA first? Whats that all about? Nothing like last minute...

I am taking Seech 101, English 101 and Psych 101 this summer so that will get 3 out of the way. And i took the NLN just for kicks last Oct and got 123 or in the 84% i think, and I am actually going to study for it next time. I am just hoping to get into the program. I already ahve my CNA(i did it in high school) and I took states at a local college my junior year of High school so that is out of the way too.

Who do you have for Speech 101 and Psych 101? I finished those recently.

Now for 2009 fall admissions you need to have done Chemistry in HS with a C or better, or college Chemistry, Psych, A&P, Eng, and if needed Math, and CNA before you can even apply. Go to their website and look under the "new" for 2009. It threw me back a whole year because there's no way for me to do A&P and CNA before then on the schedule I'm doing. Good Luck to you!

All i will need to take next year is A&P and Chem right??? Online it says you have to take Anatomy before physiology, do you know if I can apply if I am in Physiology????

As I read it you'll need Chem and A&P befefore your can apply and Anatomy does come before Physiology. From the way it reads all required classes have to be completed before applying to the program. So unless there's some possibility of taking condensed classes it's not possible. Applications are due Dec 15-Mar 15 and the earlier the better considered. If you took a Spring Physiology class from what I've seen you wouldn't be completed with it to meet the requirement. This is the problem that I'm in too. I had planned to take Anatomy this fall and Physiology in the spring with hopes of applying for the 2009 program but it doesn't seem like it's going to work out. You may want to check this out with a counsler because then it wouldn't be neccesary to take such a heavy summer load if you'll have extra semeters to fill later on. I hope this helps some. I went over all this stuff this weekend trying to figure out my plans. Best wishes.

It said if I can get it approved before hand I can take it. I have taken basic A&P at college and I got a 4.0 and I took it in high school and got an A+...so maybe they will let me do it...Otheriwse I am kind of screwed.

Anythings possible, so I would ask and see. I know how you feel, I had to rearrange everything because I didn't want to have "open" semesters where I had nothing to take.
