best children's hospital in Chicago?

U.S.A. Illinois

Hi everyone. This is my first time to post. I've enjoyed reading everyone's comments! I just found out that my husband is being transferred to Chicago. I have been a pediatric nurse for 10 years in Alabama. I would appreciate any advice on the Children's Hospitals in the Chicago area. (safe areas, salary with 10 yrs experience, good employer...) I am excited about this move but do not know where to start with my job search. Thank you!!

Couple that I know in the Chicago area are Children's Memorial Hospital and St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. Those are the two big children's hospital in chicago that I know of. Hope that helps. :)

Specializes in NICU.

Children's Memorial is an excellent hospital - AMAZING - their only problem is TRAFFIC! It's located in Lincoln Park, a neighborhood in Chicago north of downtown. Wonderful, safe area - but a b**** to get to unless you live right around there or take public transportation. Trust me, I was an employee! If it was located in the suburbs or right next to a major highway...I'd probably still be there.

In the south suburbs you have Hope Children's Hospital (part of Christ) and in the south part of downtown you have Comer Children's Hospital (part of U of C). There are also plenty of hospitals in the city and suburbs with decent pediatric and neonatal units.

New grads in Chicago are getting about $20-25 an hour, so with ten year's experience I'd venture to guess maybe $30 an hour?

I just wanted to add that in 2012 Childrens memorial will be opening their new building on the Northwestern Memorial campus.
