Apollo College, Excelsior & More....Per the BoN

So I called the BoN as I'm trying to figure out how in the world to become an RN in a place where I have to drive 50 miles in any direction to get to school.

It was explained to me that Excelsior is accepted by the ID BoN and there are no plans to change this, due to the issues that rural students face w/respect to finding a local program.

However, it was further explained to me that St. Al's & St. Luke's do not accept Excelsior graduates & Apollo college ADN graduates are going to need serious luck getting hired by these hospitals as well, as neither likes Apollo graduates.

I love raising my kids here, but this is impossible. lol. In any case, hope this helps.

I feel your pain....

I'm applying with ISU's LPN to RN program that is in Pocatello. It's mostly online, with the exception of monthly weekends. Apollo wanted me to redo most of my prereqs because they were older than 5 years....No way I'm doing that. So, I'm hoping to get into ISU...which I know is respected by the local hospitals...

Sounds to me that the OP would be better off looking into the ISU program. More job opportunity and a BSN out of it.

If I wasn't a military spouse I would do ISU's program, but I don't have any prereqs done and I'm not going to risk moving and not having credits transfer, etc.

I shared the above information to help out others who may be considering Apollo or Excelsior and don't plan on leaving Idaho any time soon.
