Any Triton college students?

I am starting my second semester of nursing school at Triton, and was just wondering if there are any current, past, or "in-the-process" students who wanted to share thoughts or questions on the program. Lemme know!

Hi there.. Just this weekend I began looking into Triton's program... I was wonderful if you could tell me if the general education classes are included in the program (meaning can they be taken concurrently with the nursing classes).. And how long is the lpn-rn program... Thanks

I think the only classes that can be taken concurrently while in the program are: Psych 228/Edu 206, Bis 241 (physiology), Soc 100 and Bis 122 (micro). I am fairly certain that they are looking for people who have filled most of those requirements before entering the program. I took one of those classes during my first semester, and I wish that I hadn't, but it was required for second semester (Edu 206). I hear that it is quite difficult to take the non-nursing classes during the program. Hope this helps!

Hello, I just started the nursing program at Triton in August and just finished my first two weeks. I was so glad to see your thread! How are you doing so far? If you are in pharmacology already can you give me some advice on what to study up on. I have heard that is the most challenging course so I want to definitely prepare. Best of luck to you!!!!:D

It is better to fulfill your prereqs before you enter the program because the classes are demanding and you will be given preference if you have them done. After your first two semesters (at Triton) you can take an lpn course (i think nur190) and then you can take the lpn test or choose to continue your adn. The adn rn program is a two year program.

Hey there- I had pharm last semester and it was extremely difficult. We lost about a third of our class to pharm. The only things I can think of off the top of my head that might be useful to study prior to class would be REALLY knowing your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, i.e. how do they effect body systems such as GI, GU, cardiac, respiratory,etc. There are some other things that you could study up on as well, but I'd say start with that, as you are going to have a lot of other things to do! I would recommend that you read a little over christmas break before you start second semester. Feel free to contact me again. Hello again, I planned on studying as much as possible over Christmas break cause I don't want to try learning so much at once.I had read on triton's nursing forum that alot of people failed pharm and two class times were dropped. Thanks for the advice!! I asked Trina to add me to the mentor list and she said she would but I havn't seen anything else about it. I start clinicals in three weeks at westlake and i'm a little nervous. How are your clinicals so far?

Yes, when you are in pharm, you need to live, eat and breathe pharm. I saw Trina the other day and she is trying very hard to get the ball rolling on the mentor program. She might be having a hard time because a lot of people who said they would do it seem to have backed out. Clinicals are going pretty good for me. My second clinical experience was at Westlake hospital, and most of the nurses were pretty nice there-- a few from Triton even. Everyone is nervous about your first clinical experience-- so very normal. My advice is to: act confident even if you don't feel confident, if you are a people person use that skill to help you talk to your patient, see everything you can see, i.e. if your instructor asks if you want to see a wet-to-dry dressing-- go see it because then when it comes time down the road to do it you will understand it better, and finally, try to develop a good routine for yourself. Ask your instructor for advice on how to develop that routine. Also, really get a hold of doing your head to toe assessment, it will help you get your work done a lot faster, and it will keep you from bothering the patient all day. im so glad I found your thread!!!! I am taking CNA at a free place I found starting Oct 1 then I should be enrolled in Triton for LPN shorty there after!!!!!

Hi, I am also in my 1st semester at triton and start clinicals at westlake soon. I have the weekend, though. I wonder if we're in the same section of NUR 115 currently, with lecture on tuesdas and wednesdays, and lab wed-friday?

So far its been easy in NUR 115 and honestly, I hate the CNA stuff were doing now and hope as an RN I do ver little of it. Its so much manual labor!

In response to claudette737- yeah, the "cna" stuff can be a bit grueling, but just know that technically that is your job when you are a nurse-- many units a decreasing staff numbers and eliminating cna positions. Also, by the time you get to NUR 145, you will be doing all that stuff you are doing now, in addition to passing meds. Just a heads up!:wink2:

Just curious if anyone knows if there is a waiting list for Triton College near Chicago..and if there is how long it may be?
