Silverado hospice anyone?

I am an experienced Hospice nurse and want to move southwest. Does anyone know about Silverado Hospice? Has anyone worked there, know anything about them? What its like, are they good to work for? They seem like a big outfit. It is one of the places I am looking at.

This company was involved in some big controversy in my area so I avoid them.

I worked there in 2005. THere was alot of crazy things going on since it was a new start up. I can only speak from what I recall. THey did not offer GIP or CC. If they did offer cc the regular staff was expected to staff it and then work a regular shift seeing other patinets. They did not have a contract with an infusion pharmacy, meaning...everyone.. got treated with sl roxanol towards end of life or if there was a pain issue. I was promised to work in the city I lived in. Truth is.. they never had a licensure for this county, and I never ever saw any patients closer than 2o miles from my home. They are a self referring company. 90% of all my patients were those who were already Silverado Residents in the Senior Living Communities. Most of these patients were not appropriate for hospice., and were indeed on service for long periods of time. Most patients were up, walking, could feed self... yet, had the diagnosis of es dementia.. You are an experience nurse... interview with them. I know they cleaned up their practice and terminated the entire nursing supervisoriy staff where I worked... NOBODY is there anymore.. and they are still open. I hope they did something right.

Thanks Noey67 for your input. Are you currently working in Hospice? Do you know of any good Hospice's to work at in your area?

Thanks

Ty

One of my best friends was diagnosed with non small cell lung CA at the age of 31. She went to their IPU then transitioned home. They took fantastic care of her the short time she was on service, about 2 weeks. They did send her home on CC and kept her on until she died, I figure it has something to do with having commerical insurance versus Medicare. I'm glad she didn't go with the company I was working for at the time. lol.

Vitas, Companion both are fairly reputable companies... also Silverado has cleaned up so much..so glad to hear this.

Hi! I know this is a pretty old thread, but i'm looking for info on Silverado Hospice. Did you end up working there? Did you like it?

Stay away from Silverado Hospice! I worked there for over a year and while they pay great and draw you in with their Love>Fear philosophy and boast about their high standards ... its a front. The reality is just the opposite. Corporate is out of touch, upper management was either incompetent or full of snakes. The local office is nice looking but again management is a revolving door and clinical staff retention is poor (they are constantly placing job ad's because of it). Several times I witnessed case managers would be dumped with case loads of 25-34 patients because nurses would quit. Very unsafe pt nurse ratios and a lot of pressure (dare I say coercion) for nurses to admit pt's who did NOT meet hospice criteria. I would never recommend Silverado. And the stories were no different talking to other locations. If you do interview be sure to ask how long staff members has been with company, doubt it will be over 2yrs. Ive never seen a company turn and burn employees from all positions as fast as Silverado.
