  1. I know this is an old post but.... Do you still work in Hospice? I'm in midwest and want to move someplace warmer, but want to stay in hospice. I am CHPN with INPT and Triage exp, love what I do , going on 5 yrs in Hospice. Any input you may have in regards to good places to work, places to avoid, advice would be appreciated. thanks ty
  2. Do you still work in Hospice? What part of country do you live in? I'm in midwest and want to move someplace warmer, but want to stay in hospice. 3. Thanks Noey67 for your input. Are you currently working in Hospice? Do you know of any good Hospice's to work at in your area? Thanks Ty
  4. I work in a INPT setting. Iv's are rarely used, and not for pain or symptom control, usually because a family wants to continue it ( from hosp) and is having hard time letting go. Most Iv's that I have seen in hospice setting do more harm then good, fluid in, that body cant handle, hence: fluid in lungs, edema, etc etc. As far as pain meds, mostly subq butterflies. work well and allot of Sub lingual: morphine, dilaudid, ativan, thorazine. Just a side question: anyone heard of silverado hospice? I want to move to warmer climate and they seem to be big. Any input? thanks
  5. I know you posted that a while ago, just curios if your situation has improved any. I am a Hospice nurse looking to move out west. Just curious what hospice you work at. Feel free to private email me if u like. [email protected]
  6. I am an experienced Hospice nurse and want to move southwest. Does anyone know about Silverado Hospice? Has anyone worked there, know anything about them? What its like, are they good to work for? They seem like a big outfit. It is one of the places I am looking at.
  7. Hey I did CHPN last june and passed. With the study guide that I used, it was helpful, but in my opinion I felt the test was a bit harder than the study guide type questions. As the last reply, I also when taking it sort of flew by the seat of my pants!!! good luck!!!!!!!
  8. Hello all Excellent posts and insightfull. I am a newbe nurse comming up on 1 years, and i must say I am disgusted and dialousined ( spelling?) with nursing. I work nights on a med-surge uint- 6 patients. It is run run run...no time for talking to Pt's or spending time with them. etc etc. If I had known the reality of nursing.....I would not have done this. ( and 3 of my classmate's have said the same thing to me). However I am trying to get into Hospice as a last dash chance to do some "real nursing" and actually spend time with Pts. or at least more time. I liked and see the truth in the comment about there are 3 kinds of nurses: 1. those that got out of nursing 2. those that want out. 3 and new nurses. I am surrouned by #2 where I work , just about everyone I talk to falls into that boat. Its a shame,,, health care in this country is like re-arranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic!!!
