Roll call - palliative care nurses?

Specialties Hospice

Published

Hi, anyone on this forum a palliative care nurse?

I work with a small and growing, mostly rural outpatient (not home based) palliative care practice, interested to network with others in the same field.

As our program grows we are going to need to build policies, write specific role descriptions, as well as just know one another across the country to share ideas, stories, and solutions.

Palliative care roll call?

Thank you, Rhodiola

I am a palliative care nurse, in a Pace at Home program. Giving both bedside care and case management for 30 participants. 1/3 of which would be classified as hospice patients. Challenging but the best nursing job I have experienced in my 17 years of nursing. I am working in Portland Oregon.

Hi - I am a certified hospice and palliative nurse (CHPN) and work in palliative care right now / hospital.

Hi Rhodiola,

do you want to write more about your work? Is it an office with a provider? Are you guys specialty certified?

I work for the hospital palliative care team but our physician also has a small office where patients can come in.

One suggestion I have is for your workplace to join

National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization

they have a reduced rate for palliative care only. That way you guys will get updates on regulatory and such.

this one is great - but unfortunately super expensive :

I'm about to hit my one year anniversary as a nurse and one service (of many) my unit offers is palliative care. At times I love it and want to do nothing else, other times, it burns me out faster than anything. I work in a hospital setting and only about 1/3 of our beds are dedicated to this population, so I rotate in and out of having such patients.

I did palliative care for a bit, My hospice agency had me see palliative patients (basically mostly patients with cancer still seeking treatment), their goal was to bridge them over to our hospice. I enjoyed it but became overwhelmed at times, trying to balance my hospice and palliative patient's needs, plus I had no designated palliative team- no support- it was very challenging but I felt like I really helped quite a few people, even when their goals and beliefs didnt exactly match up with the hospice philosophy, wish I had more structure and support around me to assist them more. Ultimately our hospice grew and they needed me for just hospice patients

Good luck!

Our local Hospice has a newer palliative program that I'd like to learn more about.
