how to open a hospice house?

I've spent sometime in home hospice, and tried a few other areas over the yrs but am drawn back to hospice.

I'm exploring the idea of opening a small hospice house (in California). I'm not sure where to start. Any input, information, or resources would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have an answer to your question but I can tell you that it's a service that is much needed. I am sitting with my mom in a hospice facility as we speak, this is likely her last day on this earth, and I am so thankful for this hospice facility. From what I understand, there are very few facilities. Hospice at home is not for everyone. I think if it's something you feel you would like to do, do it!

I work for a hospice organization that has an uncommonly large inpatient capacity. We are cutting down. Inpatient hospice has become much, much more difficult to get reimbursement for from Medicare. If you decide to try this, get VERY good and experienced consulting from people currently working in hospice and who are familiar with the regulatory changes, both those already in effect and those still coming, that impact your ability to get reimbursed for providing inpatient hospice care. I agree it's a needed service, but it's one of the most challenging sectors of hospice and of healthcare in general right now.

Thank you so much for your input. So far just looking that paper work for state licensing is very intimidating. Any suggestions where I should go for consulting?

RN Jivani, it is almost 4 years later, did you open an inpatient hospice? How is it going? Has it been difficult getting Medicare reimbursement?
