Our company has started giving cna's, tracer phones. The Nurses are going to get them soon. Has anyone had experience with these devices? At the first pt house of the day, you turn on your phone. The phone then tracks you the rest of the day with a GPS. If you stop for more thatn 6min. it sends out an alert. They say it is not meant to "watch us", but they can get on the computer and find our location at any time.I don't really have an issue with them tracking me, but do they really need to know every time I stop to relieve myself? How would you react to having this implemented at your job?

don't like it...it sounds too much like 1984 and "big brother" watching me

where I work the CNAs got them too; they are also to chart their work in the little phone....... it gives the shortest distance from one pt to the next and that is the miles they get reimbursed for - I agree : this is WAY too much control!!!! if they hang those phones on us RNs as well I am out of there! not that I goof off at work, I do not have time to goof, but the technology is taking over! besides our lap tops are tiny enough to chart on, cell phones are ridiculous, I need MEGA galses then!:specs:

I can tell you that would will not like it either. are we not professionals?

Can you even imagine giving one of these devices to an executive or an attorney? No, lets give it to the nurses?

Our work is so mentally draining that it does often require us to stop and relieve ourselves and also get a cup of coffee and stop and smell the roses!

Our agency will be starting computer charting in the next six months. I wondering how our monitoring will change.

There are bigger issues out there than knowing the exact location of nurses who are doing such profound work.

I agree, Big Brother indeed. I would feel that my integrity is being put to the test and would probably want to leave my job. Lap tops, which we do not have yet, will be bad enough about tracking our time, but a locater phone? Can the phone tell them when we tinkle? Will that be next? How about recording our visit with our patient? Way too much for me, I'm almost at retirement age.

Wow, that doesn't sound good at all! Sounds like a trust issue with the company. I am with everyone else, I'd find another company or just not turn the thing on!
