Does anyone have experience with Affinity Hospice? I have an interview and the recruiter could only say that they are a privately held company, small national company, and associated with Life Care Center. I am wondering about their corporate culture, how they treat their staff, etc. Thanks.

I don't know anything about this particular hospice. I do know that they have an office in Southgate Michigan, which is my stomping grounds...haven't run into any of their nurses that I am aware of.

I am wary of for-profit hospices but that does not mean that this company is bad...they COULD be a good employer.

Interview did not go well. Seemed like I was having to ask all the questions, rather than the employer telling me about their company and their good qualities, benefits, etc. Census a lot smaller than with prior hospice employers. I was referred to this company over a month ago and did not have an interview then because they hired a nurse with many more years hospice experience than I. But then a month later that nurse has gone from wanting to be a full time RN Case Manager to wanting to only work as needed. Made me wonder. I would have been on call every other weekend and every evening too in case something happened with one of my patients. No on call nurses. I have been burned by too quickly accepting an offer (because of the high salary) and found myself in a chaotic situation so don't want to repeat that mistake!

In this area there is only one not for profit hospice with all the others being for profit. The not for profit company engages in what I consider unethical marketing. Things like advertising they they are no for profit, but for comfort! Since hospice is a Medicare benefit all patients are getting the same benefits whether they are with a profit or not for profit hospice. All companies have to make money or they will not be able to stay in business. I feel the not for profit company takes advantage of the fact that many do not understand what not for profit means. That company also does slimmy stuff like leaving their business cards at the bed sides of patients with other hospices!

Glad you get the whole "for profit" and "not for profit" thing. Too many don't.

I am an Affinity nurse and can say without hesitation that I have never worked for a finer company than this. From the top of the administrative ladder down, the ethics and complete dedication to patient well-being is exceptional. I have never had a regret about signing on with Affinity.

I am quite sure that there are several other hospices also hiring in the Detroit and Downriver area...
