Always remember that regardless of what would be most beneficial for them; the patients and families get to decide whether and how much pain med they will use, Whether or not they will elect for using tube feeding, whether or not to be a DNR among other things. Try to make sure to order their meds far enough in advance so they don't run out on the weekend or overnight. Try to be a good listener, keep all your assessment skills sharp as you will be relying on your senses and basic equipment: stethoscope, thermometer, watch, eyes, ears, nose rather than a lot of high tech gadgets. And above all, BE a good listener!
