Working Christmas Day?

I was just wondering if any of my fellow HH nurses out there will be seeing patients on Christmas Day, whether they be regular routines or SOC. Just curious if patients actually want to be seen on this most special day of the year.

I was on call last night (Christmas eve) and had 1 visit for a leaking foley and subsequent change and 1 call about chest pain which I made sure he was taking Nitro correctly and directed to call 911 if no relief...most patients do not call unless REALLY needing to. We have 2 RNs, 1 LPN and a supervisor(for calls/scheduling/troubleshooting)working today. We do the necessary patients(daily wound, IVs...) and rearrange other people to the other days. There are SOC, ROC, etc to do - but again, only the ones who cannot wait. I hope all of you out there working have a safe and blessed day! I always remind myself that because I do what I do... these people are able to be at their home for the holidays. It's why I am a HH nurse!!! Merry Christmas!

I was scheduled to work Christmas as well as New Year's. But my home health client preferred that I not work, so I worked Christmas Eve and won't be working the first. I normally work if it is a regular scheduled day for me unless my client states they prefer I don't come. Doesn't matter to me except I will be missing out on holiday pay if the employer pays holiday pay.

At least your employer pays holiday pay. Mine only pays a little bonus, if and only if you see 4 Units on the particular holiday. What a bummer!!

Actually my remark about holiday pay was a generic reference to employers. All my previous employers paid holiday pay. Both of my current employers don't pay holiday pay (at least not to me!), as well as not paying overtime. When I made a remark about this practice, the person I was talking to at the time looked at me like I was crazy. I don't think so. I've just worked for better employers in the past.
