Interviewing for Home Care DON Position

Specialties Home Health

Published

i will be interviewing for a director of nursing position in a home health agency in operation since 1991. i have no home care experience but have extensive experience in medicare/pps in ltc. i have many years of supervisory experience in ltc, 11 of those years being an adon. i have back issues, i had a spinal fusion in nov., 2005. i don't know how much longer i can function in ltc with my back issues, djd, etc. right now i am a pm supervisor in ltc, due to cut backs i am no longer in the adon role. with my experience in ltc in the supervisory capacity, do you feel a don position in a home care agency would be overwhelming? if they do offer me the position, i sure wouldn't want to bite off more than i could chew! thank you all ahead for any advice offered.

i forgot to add i have excellent assessment skills, wound care skills, am able to start i.v. lines, administer i.v. meds, maintain picc, hickman caths, lab draws. i would think these are skills much needed in home care? i work well independently too. i really need to think of my health right now and working in ltc is really wearing me out! thanks!

You need to have a good working relationship with your clinical supervisor(s) as they will be doing the bulk of the field work for you. You don't need to be spending your time wondering if your clinical supervisor is out doing her/his visits or chilling their heels at home in front of the TV!
