If working per-diem, how do you submit your paperwork?

I applied for a per-diem or per-visit home health job and the company has left me a message asking to set up an interview. The company is quite a distance from my house (probably 30 miles one-way) and I was wondering, before a call for the interview, how one submits paperwork? My understanding is that they have cases in my area, but not an office. I've never worked home health, but I did work Hospice several years ago and had to drive my paperwork to the office. That wasn't a huge deal since I was full-time. Would it be most likely that I would drive it to the office on my own time and my own dime? Thanks!

Under no circumstances drive 30 miles one way just to deliver paperwork. As soon as it is completed, place it in the US mail. If you are dealing with a good agency. they will provide you with self addressed envelopes that they have placed postage on. If they try to make you drive to the office, ask them how much they are going to reimuburse you for the unnecessary trip.

i agree with the US mail!!! i would ask them how they are going to give you your assignment, if they are going to fax you the info, i would fax back my notes , timesheet etc and put the originals in the mail...with today's gas prices there is no more unnecessary driving!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. That is a huge help!! I want to ask some questions before I schedule the interview and now I know what type of questions to ask. I was completely clueless!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Just thought of another question. If paid by the visit, are you paid during orientation?

even tho your are Pay per visit, you have an hourly rate too, that is how you will be paid during orientation,,,i am pay per visit, tho i am fulltime, i am required to see 6 per day, that number is multiplied by your visit rate and divided by 8 = hourly rate.

We use computers, so I can transmit and download any new patients/data from home. But I need patient's charts to do an admission, need to get supplies from the office as well as sign my charting in the office. So, I usually start my day at the office but go straight home after my last patient and finish charting there. Granted, I am only 8 miles from my office. But personally, I would not be able to do my job without going into the office a few times a week. I do try to arrange my day from the farthest from my home to the closest so I get paid for as many as the miles as possible though. I am salary based on 40/week no matter what I am doing - driving, visits, charting, inservice...same when I was orienting, but I am FT not per diem.

Just heard that effective our next paycheck out mileage will show the increase to the IRS rate of 58.5 cents/mile!:nuke:

I just accepted a position with a hospice company in LA County. I am Part-time, per diem. When they offered me the position, I was so new to the whole thing that I didn't really know what questions to ask (still confused, actually). They said I will be paid $25/hr if I go out on continuous care assignments (with one patient for 8 hours). If I go out on individual patient visits, I will be paid $30/visit + mileage. I am being paid $25/hr during orientation (2-3 weeks). I have read on here that many people are paid an hourly rate + a per-visit rate. Am I being ripped off??!! BTW, I have been a licensed nurse for a little over a year, working in a nursing home in Orange County, California. Please -- someone help me. Thanks!
