I have an interview with a Home Health Company tomorrow...

And I am a nervous wreck already! I'm a LPN with more than 18 years of experience, 15 of those being as a MDS Nurse. I am currently working in a large family medical clinic and although the hours, holidays, PTO and vacation time are great, the work environment is awful and unsafe, and I am miserable. Nurses and NPs are jumping ship left and right and work morale is in the toilet. Administration simply does not care.

Before I went to nursing school in '95 I worked more than a year in home health and loved every single minute of it. I realize things have changed significantly since then, but I have wanted to get back into HH for years now. I love the idea of riding around all day, the autonomy, the idea of meeting new people and taking care of people in their home settings and the flexibility HH offers.

With this particular company, LPNs do not take call and work Mon-Fri. Pay per visit isn't that great, but mileage reimbursement is above average. They are completely paperless and equip their nurses well for the job.

I understand LPNs average 30-35 visits per week and drive an average of 300 miles per week, which is about what I drive now commuting back and forth to work.

Any interview tips? What questions should I ask? I will be wearing scrubs since the interview is scheduled during my lunch hour.

Thanks in advance! :)

As far as I could tell, the interview went very well. I ended up calling in at the clinic and just relaxing and getting my thoughts together before the interview, and I honestly believe it helped. I was relaxed and able to answer and ask questions with ease. I honestly hope I am offered the job. Although I will be seeing patients in "the hood" that doesn't bother me. I really want to get out of the clinic I am in because it is unsafe and everyone is miserable. I can't take it much more.

I'm going to begin a HH job next Tuesday, and leaving my current job due to burn out and decreased family time. Hopefully it works out for the both of us. Good luck!

Congrats!! I hope you enjoy enjoy your new job :) If you don't mind telling me, what kind of setting have you been working in?

I've always been in the acute care setting. Did cardiac stepdown for the majority of the time, but have been on an Ortho/neuro/trauma unit for the past five or so months. I'm just not a fan of the hospital.

I also did some clinic work for a couple months and loved it but left because of low pay and no benefits.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, Transport, L&D, Hospice.

I hope you get the job!
