Just out of curiosity, how does your agency handle on call responsibilities?

1. How many on-call shifts do you have each week?

2. How often are you required to handle weekend on call duty?

3. What hours are considered on-call/afterhours?

4. What's the pay structure like?

5. What area of the country are you in?

I'll throw my answers out there:

1. We usually have 1 primary and 1 back-up on call shift each week with the exception of the week following our weekend. Usually, we only have a back-up shift after working the weekend.

2. Right now we have 2 weekends in a 6 week period. One weekend is spent as the primary on-call and one as back-up

3. M-Th 17:00-08:00 Weekend is 1700 on Fri - 0800 on Mon

4. $20/ weeknight shift and $40/ weekend shift. Any visits made on call are paid at normal visit pay depending on type of visit.

1. How many on-call shifts do you have each week? before I made the move to PDN, I took call once a week

2. How often are you required to handle weekend on call duty? Not sure, it seemed random but I guess once a month on average as one of the scheduled days--- Sat or Sun only, not both

3. What hours are considered on-call/afterhours? 5pm - 7am however on-call visits after 11pm were extremely rare, usually a visit would be scheduled for next day or pt was directed to go to ED

I don't do call now, but in the past was required to do call once or twice a week.

2. How often are you required to handle weekend on call duty?

Usually weekend call would be once a month and only one day - either saturday or sunday, but not both.

3. What hours are considered on-call/afterhours?

5pm to 8am

4. What's the pay structure like?

I was paid 3.50/hr and then it would be time and a half if I had to make a visit.

1. How many on-call shifts do you have each week?

Less than once a week, our six week schedule has us on-call approx four times/nights.

2. How often are you required to handle weekend on call duty?

Less than once a schedule, we have a lot of nurses so the duties are spread out pretty well.

3. What hours are considered on-call/afterhours?

430pm-1030pm after that the patient is instructed to go to ER if urgent or nurse will be sent out next morning. We do have a triage nurse they can contact 24 hours a day for assistance.

4. What's the pay structure like?

It's $2/hr for on call and $70/unit for the visits.

1. On my team, 3 people rotate call. I cover 1 week a month.

2. Call is by the week, so I cover the weekend whenever I'm on call. If a person who is on-call can't cover part of the week, they have to arrange coverage with someone else.

3. M-Th 5pm to 8 am, then 5 pm Friday to 8 am Monday.

4. Pay is $150 per week, which is prorated if you don't cover the entire week.

1. How many on-call shifts do you have each week? RNs take call a week at a time from 5pm Monday to 8am the following Monday.

2. How often are you required to handle weekend on call duty? Every third week

3. What hours are considered on-call/afterhours? 5:01pm to 7:59am

4. What's the pay structure like? $3/hr while on call. Then if you get called out you get regular visit pay.
