Hello,

I recently received my license to be a LVN in May. After going to a few interviews I realized that working with a home health agency would work best considering I'm currently taking the prerequisites classes to qualify for RN programs so it gives me more time to study.

However, with the agency I didn't receive any orientation and training before starting work. I was just given a stack of papers to fill out. The papers consist of a time sheet, skilled nursing notes, and a flow sheet for vitals.

Besides doing a head to toe assessment and filling out these paper I feel totally lost on what my other responsibilities.

The family is very active in doing the clients adl's so besides the two things I mentioned I don't know what else I can do daily considering I wasn't given a plan of care either. I work 8 here every day and I want to be a useful as possible.

You follow the plan of care on the 485, a copy of which you were provided before you went to the case. Do not accept cases that you have not reviewed the plan of care for.

Now that you're in this spot, hopefully there's an agency folder/binder in the home with a hopefully updated 485 aka "plan of care." That will list medications, goals and interventions, diagnosis and so on. Try and find that in the home and or ask your agency for a copy of that. All orders will be listed on there. Patient specific precautions will be there as well, numbers and info. Good luck!
