do you ever feel overwhelmed with responsibility?

I have a TON of blood draws every week. I have to watch my fax machine and know when to call docs and when to just fax the copy to them. I have to keep up with who needs a port-a-cath flush on what date, when a f/c needs changed, etc. On top of it all, patients call me and want me to call their md for more pain meds, or call me over some silly thing. sometimes I just feel so tired of trying to keep up with everyone. And then the patients will call me over something that Im not even there for. One wanted me to contact her insurance company to set up an ambulance ride to her MD appt. Does anyone else ever feel overwhelmed?

It sounds to me as if you need to change your number and keep the new number private if it is your personal number that the patients are using. If they call the office to talk to you, then you might need to remind them what is something that they should call you about and what you can not help them with. Otherwise, just best to be polite within the parameters of your work day. Do not let this carry over to your personal time. That will wear you out. I assume you have some sort of organization system in place to keep track of all this. I guess this is what those fancy PDAs are supposed to be good for.

I am VERY organized. If one paper is out of a chart, it drive me crazy. How would a PDA help? I dont have one and dont know what they do.
Thanks.
