cellulitis and no antibiotic?

New pt, I'm trying to contact Dr. One leg Very large red skin discoloration, small blister like anterior of leg by ankle. Minor swelling. No pain. Can feel touch, hot, cold. 2yr Hx. Tx only topical fluoconoid corticosteroid. Pt reports old ankle injury. I was thinking Pvd, pad, in one leg due to injury. Another rn said cellulitis. Is there ever a time where cellulitis is not tx with antibiotics?

In my experience, no. Atb is a given with cellulitis without question.

Specializes in Emergency, Telemetry, Transplant.

I basically have always seen cellulitis treated with some kind of ABX.

However, you state that the pt has a 2 year hx of the red leg (is that correct, I might have misinterpreted that)? If that is indeed the case, I would tend to think that this is not cellulitis, but rather PAD.

Did this pt have some type of workup on the etiology of this issue?

Never atb, not dx as Pvd, pt reports poor vein circulation due to leg injury. It looks like Pvd, one leg.
