oops, trying to type and eat at the same time. The other annoying thing is the paperwork it generates. They get a pamphlet from the ambulance, and more paperwork from admitting. We kill enough trees as it is.

I am not actually actively nursing any more, but I am tired of HIPPA because I am tired of signing and reading paper saying what I know these particular doctors are doing.

My boss is quite gleeful with the thought that he will "catch " one of us with PHI on our desks when no ones looking. He is on the county privacy commitee and has sent around a memo witha very arrogant and threatening tone about an inspection later this month where" They do have the authority to open unlocked drawers and look for PHI"

Sure, i'm all for protecting privacy and have always ben sensitive to this is psych especially. I have taken a closer look with the hippa implementation- But this is not ok . What about MY privacy? The sound like some privacy police cadre come to call!

Hm...my privacy. I actually had a family member ask me what my last name was while on the phone. I hate that we have to have our names displayed on our badges. I don't mind the first name, but who really needs my last name? In the past when I worked ER, someone got my name off of my badge and used it as a witness to an accident. I was at work at the time and never witnessed the accident. This was back in the 80's. Some of the nurses resorted to hanging their badges low on their bodies, making it more difficult to read. Others turned them around. In the hospital where I work now, it is mandatory that our badges be in full view for everyone to see. It has my picture on it...I think that that is enough. My full name does not need to be on it!
