Tips for passing the HESI A2

Nursing Students HESI

Published

I looked to this website for tips on passing the HESI A2, and since it had been a while since someone posted their success story, I thought I would post mine. I scored 88.8% overall. This may not be above 90%, but I still think its pretty good!

Here are the sources I used while studying:

The Elsevier study guide

McGraw Hill practice tests

Quizlet

Cliff Notes

If you are like me, you typically over prepare for important tests. I am notorious for doing this, but I say better be safe than sorry!

I spent about 2-3 months studying for the exam. I spent about 1-2 hours a day between work, school and social life. I spent more time in the weeks leading up to the exam, and took the McGraw Hill practice exams two weeks before the exam to make sure I was ready.

Here are my scores:

Vocabulary I scored a 84%- I did so by studying the Elsevier book words, and also used quizlet and the two links I posted above.

Reading Comprehension: 86%- I used the Elsevier book, as well as the McGraw practice tests.

Math- 82%- This was my worst score. All I have to say is pay close attention to directions! I used the Elsevier book, as well as the links, and quizlet to quiz myself on conversions and roman numerals.

Anatomy- 100%- I did very well in A&P 1 and 2, but I refreshed myself on terms by using mainly cliff notes, as well as Elsevier, McGraw Hill, the links, and quizlet.

Grammar- 92%- I mostly used the Elsevier book to study this one.

I hope some of these suggestions help you to pass your HESI A2!

Thank you for the tips. I'm taking mine this coming December and I'm nervous because I still have 3 online classes that I'm finishing while studying for this too. I'll try to find 1-2 hrs here and there like you mentioned. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing! I'm starting tomorrow and plan to study 1-2 hours a day. My exam is on Dec 27th.
