Are there HESI A2 practice tests out there that are full length? As in with the same number of questions as the actual exam? I only did some basic searches today from work but everything I saw had fewer questions in each section.

I have a learning disability in the language arts area. I've learned how I learn best, methods that help me etc and really 99% of the time it's never an issue. Where this becomes an issue is that the biggest impact of my learning disability is that I read slowly. On a timed test with a reading comprehension section this is a problem. My actual reading comprehension is very high, a timed test will not reflect this if I run out of time.

I had an official accommodations letter back when I was in college which would allow me more time in a situation like this. Well I finished college in 2004 so not only do I not have that documentation anymore it wouldn't help me if I did. I contacted the appropriate people at the school I'm interested in about what I'd need to do to get documentation of my learning disability and receive the needed accommodation. Well what I'd need to do is get an evaluation done which is pretty expensive from the information they provided me and can be very time consuming.

I'm thinking it's probably not worth it to go through all that money and time when the only thing I'd need any accommodations for is the HESI exam. Getting a feel for how long the exam would actually take me would tell me if I really have to jump through these hoops for an accommodation or not.

Here is the suggested time break down the school gives for the exam (4 hours total):

  • Math, 52 minutes
  • Reading Comprehension, 43 minutes
  • Vocabulary and General Knowledge, 52 minutes
  • Grammar, 43 minutes
  • Anatomy and Physiology, 28 minutes
  • Learning Style, 11 minutes
  • Personality Profile, 11 minutes

The guides I've seen online suggest 60 minutes for the reading section so this worries me.

Reading comp took me about 45 minutes to answer 55 questions. I made a 97 on this section and I'm a slow reader too because I get distracted and start thinking about other things when I'm reading.

did you read the questions first or the whole passages first?

I've got a lot of time to prepare at this point, about 10 months until the next application cycle. Hopefully being super prepared for the other sections and completing them quickly will give me the "extra" time I might need for the reading section. My rough idea for now is to do everything else first and use all my remaining time for the reading section. I'll probably be fine, I'm just worried because I only have one shot at it. The school I need the HESI A2 for doesn't allow retakes. So I can't just give it a go and see how I do and make adjustments if needed on a second attempt.
