Hip Pain on an Ortho Floor... My Hip Pain

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Hello everyone,

I am currently a 21 year old nursing student. I've always been relatively healthy, and I have worked many jobs on my feet without problems. However, I recently started a new CNA job on an ortho floor where I have assisted in a lot of patient weight bearing and lifting. I'm not overweight, and I believe I am lifting correctly (although I honestly might not be, the doctor confirmed the lifting had caused bursitis on my right scapula). Anyway, my hip has been clicking and locking for about two months. What happens is if I sit, lay, or stand in the same position for too long, my hip locks. Once it locks I cannot bear weight on it until I manually crack it by abducting my hip. For the first month, it caused little to no discomfort, once I cracked it it would relieve the pressure with only mild soreness from time to time. Lately, though, it has become much worse. Cracking my hip only makes it more sore and today for the first time I was unable to go up the stairs and had a sufficient amount of trouble walking on that hip. Even lifting my body out of a lying position causes pain. The pain is felt throughout the front of my hip and thigh, but if I touch the inner side of my hip bone, that is excruciating as well. I had an x-ray done, indicating that the joint space was normal and there were no osteophytes or any other bony prominences or abnormalities. If anyone has any advice on tests, treatments, exercises, or just how to adapt at work, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you all for your help.
