Dieters: Please share your favorite low-cal spices & condiments & a dish used with it

by Angie O'Plasty, RN allnurses Guide

I love the Italian herb blend of seasoned croutons. I add a few to my soup for a little extra kick.

Sometimes, I'll add some pepper from the McCormick assorted pepper grinder too.

I use this cheese shaker thing (Molly Butter I think the brand is) its Nacho Cheese flavored. It has NO calories. I use it on my 94% fat free butter popcorn. I love cheesey popcorn so thats a great way to use that. Or you can put splenda and have kettle corn type popcorn or add cinnamon and splenda with the popcorn.

Love Mrs's Dash (any flavor) and put it in with ground turkey or ground chicken and make meatballs or hamburgers.

But best thing is using fresh herbs in basically anything, taste better than dried anyday!

While I wouldn't call it a "favorite," I regularly use the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray margerine on my low-carb toast and vegetables. It's basically the margine without the fat that allows it to be spreadable: so, it's sold in a spray bottle as a liquid. It has no calaries, no fat, no carbs -- but it adds a buttery flavor to veggies and toast.

The whole bottle has over 900 cals and 90 grams of fat. Every 5 spritzes are 5 calories. I make sure I never use more than 10 sprays of this product. That way I can still sort of calculate my cals. I also put olive oil in a spray bottle since its more healthier and less chemicals with its natural Omega 3's.

Where does it say that? I just checked my bottle and it says that 5 spritzes has 0 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs, etc. I think you may be talking about a different product.

I'm doing weight watchers and a member came across this website. http://www.hungry-girl.com/askhg/ask...s.php?isid=759 She then called Unilever the owners of ICBINB. They even told her its correct, moderation is key with the use of this and many products. I know of people who pour this product on their veggies because it says 0 cals, but thats fo5 sprays. Just saying be careful not everything is 0 cals.

I actually love that Hungry Girl website now its very WW friendly and has great tips.

P.S. 12.5 sprays is 10 calories sorry.

Well, I'm going to continue using it because I like "butter" on my toast -- and I am smart enough to use it in moderation. I wouldn't want to use any chemical excessively: that would be foolish. I've lost 30 pounds in 6 months and all my cholesterol, triglyceride, blood glucose, etc. levels have significantly improved on my low-carb diet. My doctor is thrilled with my results and tells me to continue doing what I have been doing because it is working so well.

My boss also uses the product on toast and veggies and she has lost 35 pounds and kept it off for about 3 years now. She's the one who told me about it.

It's no miracle food -- and it should be used with common sense and not to excess -- but it can be a help for people who like buttery flavor.

Hmmm, I'll have to try that spray. I've been loading down baked potatoes, etc with tons of pepper. Makes me salivate so I don't *need* all that butter I was using before
