  1. What was your TEAS score for KCC?

9 members have participated

Hi All,

I am curious as to what a competitive applicant has for an ATI TEAS score, GPA, prereqs. I understand the minimum TEAS was 78, but it has been temporarily lowered to 65.

Obviously, the higher the scores the better, but what does an average accepted applicant's scores look like?

What is a solid TEAS score for acceptance, do I have to score in the 90s or are scores in 70s adequate?

Do most selectees earn A's on their Zoology and MICR, or are B's competitive? Essentially, I am wondering if I should fork out additional money to retake the zoology classes to raise the B's to A's or is that an unwise use of tight funds?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Ooops I meant healthcare training/experience. No health clearance yet. Those shots and other things will be required after you get accepted :p

Yeah I was hoping they would let us know in September. At least you have classes to keep you busy! I'm fresh out of classes...just gotta rely on work to get my mind off the waiting.

Hey Rockingit,

did you turn in your application to KISC in Ilima 102 or to the nursing department. The instructions I had on my paper copy were to turn into the student worker at the front desk. I am pretty sure its okay but its unnerving to turn in a package that took me a year to put together class-wise to a student worker. You are right about no receipt though. UHM gives you a receipt of what you turned in, KCC does not.

I am not too worried about the waiting, as I am already freaking out about my Calculus and Biology and chemistry classes, I like it but sometimes I ask myself why do I punish myself like this, all of them have so much reading. At least time will fly.

Cougar68,

I turned it in to KISC in Ilima 102 because when I tried to turn in into the student worker, she told me to head to Ilima instead. UHM probably has more money to do receipts of confirmation since it's a bigger school.

2 science classes in one semester? That's cray cray...jk. Good luck this semester!

Just found out from an advisor from Kcc that they are admitting around 140 students! Does anyone know how much they admitted for fall? There's hope! Hahha

How about how many they accept? 139 other students to compete with isn't too bad just as long as they accept 40. If it's 30 open seats then that's gonna suck. That's awesome how the KCC advisors release that info. In previous post I saw someone say it was 27 seats and 200 applicants in the Spring 2012 semester.

Oops sorry forgot to mention that she said between 20-40 but so far there are 140 applications in. I was expecting 250 would apply.

I hope it's close to 40 that'll be accepted, but it depends on the number of nursing instructors that's available. I was expecting 200 to apply. 140 is even better because now the odds are higher! You're right, there is hope!

Did the advisor give out anymore classified info? haha

wow,

thats not too many they are letting compete. I guess we just have to be top third, I honestly don't think that is too hard looking at both of your scores. What is kind of a humbug is the problem with applying for spring vs fall if you want to do the bridge course. If you finish in the summer you have the summer to get your RN and take the extra nursing elective UHM requires. Now you have to take the class the fall semester prior or take a semester break to get those done. I didnt think this through, but first things first, have to get in first!

Hi cougar68,

Did you turn in your application yet?

I didn't think about that either! . But I was wondering, in order for us to do the bridge, would we have to sit for the board in order to bridge over? We can't just graduate ADN and transfer the following semester? If so then uh oh! After this semester I only need statistic for uhm.

Yeah I didn't think it through as well. My main thought was getting into the program. If you get your RN in the summer then it'll be opportune time to gain experience in the hospitals, though, right? Buuuuttt...I don't know how strong ADN new grads are in acquiring positions in hospitals. Is there still a nursing surplus on the island? Queens just bought St. Francis in Ewa, so that may bring forth new opportunities. My mind is thinking too far into the future haha. Is it late October yet?

You have good stats too Cougar68. A 4.0 on pre-reqs is very exceptional. I wouldn't count you out either.

Just a random question for those also applying to UHM and not currently a UHM student. Did a letter from Brian Akiyama come back stating your application is not complete because of no UHM application on file. I got the letter even though I applied to UHM and sent in my $70 online. I didnt send a receipt in my nursing package or anything stating I did this. I spoke to admissions and was told that my application is pending nursing acceptance but I am on file and I will not be refunded my $70 if not accepted. So if I am pending and nursing school throws out my application due to no UHM application, how do you apply?

I called and emailed but no response yet. Very nerve racking and frustrating over and above just the waiting.

I just payed for my UH-Systems app today. Oh and sent in my Departmental Application as well. How long ago did you do your UH-Systems App? It says 4-6 weeks prior to September 1st, but I think that is just so that it meets the October deadline to transfer to UH-Manoa for the Spring 2014 semester. Try calling them.
