Hello Every1,

I am considering the VA hospital in my area (Michigan) after graduation. Thinking ahead, when should I apply if I graduate in May 2010? I keep hearing that the application process is very long. Thanx in advance

I would apply 3 months before you graduate since it takes 2-3 months to get hired. If you are able you might want to apply for a non-nursing position now that way you can apply for a transfer to a nursing position shortly before or after you graduate.

The VA also has what is called a Valor student nurse. This is a paid part-time position in which you work with RN's doing basic care. I do not know the time frame for appling for this position, you would need to ask the local VA if they have any Valor positions open at this time. At the VA I worked for Valor students ended up having preference for a nursing position after they graduated.

good luck

jeckrn, thanx for the info. i have never heard of the valor program, i will call my local va & get some info. about that. :)
