RN grad, applying to Army Nurse Reserves.. advice!

Hey everyone, I'm new to this so bare with me

I'm putting my application through now to the Army Nurse Reserves, I should make the May board

I have some questions about the Nurse Reserves if anyone has experience..

1) Is it hard doing the reserves and keeping up with a full time civil RN job? Has your job easily given you the weekends and 2weeks a year off you needed? If you have been deployed, has your job been okay with that and held it for when you return?

2) I am from Erie, PA and will be living there after graduation, there is a reserves center there.. will I automatically get that center for my one weekend a month everytime?

3) What is the pay like? I am graduating next month with my BS in nursing

4) The recruiter here said the Army Nurse Reserves are full right now and I will probably have to wait until the next fiscal year to get in, if I am applying now and get selected in Oct, will I get the benefits that are offered now, or will I get the ones that are offered for next FY (if they change)?

5) Is it true that now they want you to have 6 months RN experience before going into the reserves (the recruiter said this is new, but could be waived.. anyone heard of this?)

thankss so much and any advice whatsoever would greatly be appreciated! :-)

Do a quick search of this forum, many of your questions are answered.

The 6month experience request sounds new. I have also heard the "quota" for RNs is filled this FYR. Ask your recruiter whether the incentives will carry over to next yr.

It is EASY to fulfill the civilian world work and reserves........you probably won't be deployed unless your TPU unit is do for it's 5year rotation.

I was in the 339th CSH which is located in Erie, transfered about a 1 1/2yr ago for career reasons. Good group of people, enjoyed my time with them. Do not believe you have to worry about deployment right now with them. Even if the quote is full for the FY you will need to put your application in now. If you are picked up now you would be placed on a merit waiting list I believe. They know that not everyone who is picked up by the board will end up joining. Some get cold feet others have applied to other services and ended up going with them. Also if you are picked up now you will be one of the 1st ones accepted in the new FY. Good Luck

So where are you going to be working?
