Question about orders and TMO

Ok, so our recruiter called today and told DH that he got cleared to commission. She wants it done by Aug 4th! Well, DH told her that may not be possible due to his work schedule, not to mention he wants to contact the retired captain that taught him in nursing school so she can perform the commissioning ceremony. They found out he got clearance to commission last week. Why did she wait until today to call him? UGH!!!

Well anyway, got another question: How long after commission did it take to receive your orders? I am trying to determine when to turn in my notice. DH called TMO and they said that the time between setting the appointment and the movers coming is about 3 weeks. Well if he doesn't get orders until a week before he is supposed to leave, that would put me and the baby leaving in November, which will open up a whole new can of problems with daycare for her, power of attorney to relocation, yadda yadda yadda.

Any information would be great, especially from anyone who has used TMO in North Carolina...hint hint carolinapooh! lol

Get his commission done ASAP...after work on the weekend etc. You don't want anything to hold up his paperwork for going to COT. Any officer can do the oath. You can always have a formal ceremony later.

I can't remember what it is officially called, but TMO can do an expedited move and get you out of there usually within a week or so. I got my orders about a week before my last move, and was able to expedite my move without a lot of problems.

By the way you don't need a power of attorney for TMO as long as your name is on the TMO orders.

PCSing is always a pain. I am on 4th duty station in 8yrs.

How do we make sure that my name is on the TMO orders?

There is a spot for it on the paperwork, and TMO should ask about it also.

Well he decided that he will have his commission done next Friday. Hopefully it won't take 2 months to get his orders, but I've seen the timelines of others on here...

my timeline:

i commissioned july 8th and got my orders via e-mail from my recruiter july 24th. he was right on his military timing for once ; )

That's good to hear! Hopefully ours will be similar. That will save me a lot of headache later!

IMHO (military wife for 30 years) I would get a power of attorney just to have on hand. You never know when you might need it. Hubby can and may be deployed on short notice. Always, always have a back up plan. Another thing when you PCS or move, always take BEFORE pictures of your stuff, save receipts of all big ticket items and keep them with you. Make sure someone is in each room they are packing. Put stuff you do NOT want packed in a closet with tape across the door DO NOT PACK.

Thanks! We are in the process of going through everything to see what we can sell before we move. This is the first time that he has moved and actually had to pack a house, so it's a little foreign to him even with prior service.

What exactly do I need to do to get power of attorney?
