Picking your specialty - Can you change later?

Specialties Government

Published

I am the Jack of all Master of None. So I was talking with a recruiter and when it comes down to picking a specialty he wants to know about my experience. Well,, since I have no one particular thing, I am "labeled" as Med-Surg.

My question is, IF I let my recruiter talk me into going active Air Force Med Surg, is it realistic to think I can change later and if so is there a time frame you have to stay in one field?

I played this game on the enlisted side "take this one and change later". I wound up with the short end.

Thanks in advance,

Pam

Somebody just told me that once you hit your 3 year mark or are due to change assignments that you can look into changing specialties but that it is not easy. Does anyone know anything about this?

.... it will be based upon that future manpower need in each specialty - 'time and situationally dependent'.

Pam, military is great - lots of options and it's awesome to work w/ Soldiers... you really have to surrender total control as your priorities will be second to that of the needs of the navy/af/army.

Even if you hear of current options to 'switch' it doesn't relate to how often it happens and future needs... I'd take it in stride.
