Options for Army Reserve Nurse

Specialties Government

Published

Hello,

I am a 66H (Med-surg nurse) in the Army Reserves. I received notification today that my AOC has been removed from my management team, the AMEDD Professional Management Command, and therefore the following options have been presented to me:

1) Transfer to a different Troop Program Unit (TPU)

2) Transfer to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)

3) Transfer to the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) Program

Are any other Army Nurses in any of these programs and what are the Pros and Cons of each? My obligation time is 8 years, which I will reach SEP 2014. So I basically have almost 1.5 years of time left.

I don't want to make a career in the military at this point due to a different path my life has taken and I have enjoyed my time in the military. But now I have to make a decision and not really sure what that decision may be.

Any information/suggestions would be great!

Thanks!!

if you plan on leaving the reserves once your time is up i would do irr.

jeckrn I think that's what I am going to do

What were the perks for joining? You may have to repay them. If you ran into issues repaying, I'd go IMA.

What did you decide?

I, too, have been released from the AMEDD, but I have a few years to go.

The only perk was I was paid a stipend every month while pursuing my BSN. I also have a $50000 loan repayment option for school, but I NEVER used any of that. I don't "owe" them anymore time for any monies I received.

I am going IRR...unless I can find a unit that has a slot for a CPT since I was just promoted last month, AFTER being told the AMEDD was releasing all 66Hs.

Where did you hear this from? is it only the IMA?

I was attached to APMC, the AMEDD Professional Management Command in Georgia. I got a letter stating as of April 19 they were no longer managing 66Hs. If you are an ED, ICU, OR And maybe Psych nurse than they would still administratively manage you. Apparently they had too many med-surg nurses and referred them back to their home units. My home unit is now an ambulance unit and the 66Hs have found other units. No big deal, I have my country almost 7 years, the remainder of my 8 year obligation will be IRR :-)
