Nurse candidate versus commisioning?

Darn,

I still have questions about this.

Apparently as a pre-nclex Master's entry student my recruiter is telling me that my program qualifies me to become commisioned now.

I'd asked about going the ANCP route so that I can get the bonus now, the stipend monthly and the bonus upon commisioning post nclex.

Recruiter says at first, that I would be a PFC as an ANCP and as an enlisted person that if I didn't pass the NCLEX then I'd be a regular enlisted person. Hmmm, seemed like a lie, then finally much later he says in direct answer to my question about waiting for me to sit for NCLEX again that "oh they give you six months for that."

My recruiter is a pita, (pain in the area I sit on).

So, if I commision now I will not earn any money at all until after OBC, which would not be until next Oct at the very earliest.

I am living on my student loans and would rather go the ANCP route.

Also, at first my recruiter told me I'd commision now as a 1LT, and if I went the ANCP I'd be a PFC until NCLEX and then be a 2LT. However, I read a question he posted for me in another fourm where he said I'd be a 2LT if I commision now. Hmmmm.

Next, he said that if I go the ANCP route that I must take the ASVAB. I don't mind taking the ASVAB.

If any one has the time and inclination to clear up his mess I'd appreciate it.

OH, I finally found out the answer, (actually the one I both suspected and wanted to hear) that as a single officer with no dependants that I would not really get on base housing so my cats are not even an issue!

Are you referring to Army ROTC program?

BTW, I thought you were interested in active duty?

Taking the ASVAB has nothing to do with the application process for the Army Nurse Corps... at least to my knowledge. Plus, I don't see how you can receive direct commission in the Army Nurse Corps w/o a BSN [or ADN for RC]?

I am interested in Active Duty. I am interested in the Army Nurse Candidate Program, which as a non ROTC student I am eligible for. I have one year to go towards graduation with my Master's entry degree.

Army Nurse candidates can be either junior or senior standing in their BSN, (my standing is as one year left pre nclex so is similar to senior bsn but, is msn).

My recruiter tells me things that I later find out on my own are totally bogus but, he told me in order to get the bonus and monthly stipend as a nurse candidate I had to take the ASVAB and score a minimum of 50. I did okay.

However, he is new to recruiter Nurses and even newer to recruiting active Army. Sigh, just yesterday at meps he didn't have me scheduled, had my wrong address on all of my forms and also had me checked, on all forms, for being there for both Army and Marine Corps! Yikes, he is such a screwball, I don't trust him with my application or with what he tells me at all. He almost d/qd all my transcripts by opening them up in the office! Ugh, he said, "oh these aren't official they were delivered to you!" I made him stop tearing the envelope and said, then give them back! They are official as long as the seal is stamped and it is sealed.

Is there any way I can go to another recruiter? This guy is a walking hazard to my future!

Hey Gen,

I feel like I am going to different threads and putting it all together. I know the Air Force has advisors on line. If you go to the section where it talks about joining somewhere in there there is a live chat with advisors. Maybe the Army has something similiar.

I know Yale University has a nursing program. They take people with other Bachelor degrees give them 2 years of nursing and the graduate with an MSN, is that similiar to you?

Hi,

My University uses a program directly modeled after University of California at San Franciso's program.

One must have many of the core of a BSN completed alongisde their Bachellor's of science or arts in order to be eligible, as well as fulfilled the requirements for Graduate school.

We have two years of NCLEX-RN preparation and two years of Master's generalist courses. These are combined and taught during the same two years.

As with all nursing programs, it is intense, to say the least. :)

Hello Corvette Guy,

Nice to read that. I heard today from the Army medical online recruitment, "ask a question" section and was told that as an Army Nurse Candidate it was not required for me to take the ASVAB.

Oh boy. Now that I think about it, I have an Associates, a Bachellor's and one year of master's school and I was taking a test that is for high school students or graduates. Kind of burns a hole in my satisfaction over my score!

I checked the next local office and it is the same office that my recruiter asks all the verifying questions from.

I am going to try and figure out the how, what, where and when to tell him that I want to deal with that office directly.

Yes, seriously, only after my current recruiter's style and ineptitude. I really want Army but, am just looking into AF and NAVY now.

From everything I've read, they are still heavily recruiting medical professionals, including nurses. Good luck!

Hey, I am online just as you posted!

Thanks for the reply, this is good to know.

Right now AMEDD has contacted me and asked me to wait in my application and to not continue with this recruiter as they were also concerned with how my application is being handled. I will give it a little time.

I think the Air Force is my next interest if this Army stuff doesn't settle.

It isn't that it was a bother to have taken the ASVAB but, the idea that the recruiter is not appropriately handling my application is unnerving. I am 40 and if I hope to make 20 as commisioned by 60 that means NOW.
